Hi William, Honestly TFM (the factory manual, NOT the fu*%ing manual) would be a good place to start. It is a valuable resorce that will pay for itself many times over if used. But basically you need to remove the lower cowling, loosen the rear axle (pinch bolt first) to put slack in the belt, remove the front belt guard, remove the idler pully and then the exhaust can itself. Tools, Rear stand, Allen wrench set, "axle remover" bolt thing, 27 torx (both found in your bikes tool kit), Socket set and open/box end wrench set. To put it back together you will need one other tool, but you didn't ask about that. Timbo |

axle remover"tool? Should be in your tool kit. Kinda looks like a key for the locknuts for a custom car rim.

Ok William, The other tool ia a torque wrench. Idler pulley bolts= 33-35 ft/lbs Rear axle= 48-52 ft/lbs Rear axle pinch bolt= 40-45 ft/lbs Also, don't forget to put anti-seize on the axle ends (just the ends, you don't need it in the middle). Timbo |

Just occured to me you probably will not be fully removing the axle. So skip the part about anti-seize. Unless you want to do that. I only do it when I have the rear wheel off though. Timbo |

Wait a second. I know the manual says to remove the idler pulley, etc. therefore requiring the rear axle be loosened & all that. The fact of the matter is that you really don't need to remove the idler pulley in order to remove the exhaust. I used an extension to reach through one of the holes in the idler pulley to get at the two muffler clamps holding the rear of the muffler. For ease of future R&R, I replaced the clamps so that they can be reached from the left side of the bike. Hope this helps. Less tools, less work, more riding! |

Not sure about re-installing the D&D? The idler pulley may need to be removed for that, as is the Race Kit. |
