I'm wondering, do I need the beak? I will most likely never be off road, so I rally need it? Does it help with road debris? Is it just required to be 'full fendered'? I've search for awhile and haven't found any examples, so if there are any, can you post comments? Thanks |

Run through rain at about..say...15 mph. You can *watch* the roostertail of water coming off that front tire. It coats the headlights pretty successfully (I know this because I do a lot of mud and dirt on mine). And just above and behind the headlights is...well...YOU. But, it's your call. Don't like the beak? Put a regular XB front fender on, like an XT has. And send me yours, I can always stockpile spares ![; )](http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/clipart/winker.gif) |

I added a beak to my XT and it works great with my dirt modded front stock XB fender. |

I *hate* the dorky beak. Enough so I bought an XB12XT this week and am selling the XB12X. Well, the XT is a 2009 and runs a bunch better also, but... Took the beak off and discovered something. The center screw that holds the beak on also aims the headlights on the X. Yes, there is a bracket for that on the XT. If you want to take the beak off, get the XT bracket! Also get some kind of front fender. Ratbuell is right. DAMHIK. |

Last July, I wrecked and my "Beak" was damaged. I ordered a new one from High Country HD and it over 90 days to get a replacement. The guys at High Country were great, but their hands were tied. So after removing the Beak I found that the beak actually supports the lights. I decided to chop the beak (taking 2/3rd of the fender off). I found that riding in wet conditions sometimes was a challenge. I rode from Monarch Pass to Denver in a rainstorm and found that even when riding in pockets of non-rain, my face shield would be coated with the grime from the wet road surface, I fact, I was looking forward to the rain. The lack of a beak will also allow road debris to be kicked up. On that trip, during the dry spell, my face shield was pocked with stones flying up and the speed of the bike would catch up with the debris trajectory. |

Right, guys...it's ugly AND it doesn't keep the stuff off you and the bike. Terrafirma, I didn't say take the beak off and leave it, I said // Also get some kind of front fender. // I good front fender, a little closer to the tyre, should keep a lot of the road spray off the bike and the rider. Now we are up to $0.04 |

Datsawman, so true, I just put my $0.02 in, stating that I noticed much more debris hitting me in the face as opposed to when I had a short beak.. A lower fender would protect the rider a little more. I was checking out the Yamaha Super Tenere at a local shop and I couldn't get past the look, Without some from of protrusion under the lights doesn't look right to me. |

I'm not a huge fan of the beak, though for riding through serious muck, I suppose it's the best option. But I put a stock XB fender on my Uly first and thought it looked too small, and it didn't properly protect the fork tubes. So I grafted an XB fender to an S2 fender and this is the result:
http://www.americansportbike.com/shoponline/ccp0-p rodshow/9405.html It's what I run on my Uly. But I suppose I'd re-mount the beak if I was planning doing the road of bones or something... Al |
