I'm glad you guys got lots of money to spend on ECM's. The one that came stock with my 06 runs just fine. |

Maybe it's the color of the engine or maybe if you just fix all those non-existent intake leaks or the tooth fairy (Erik Buell Racing) may be able to take some more of your money..It's like banging my head against a wall.and it's going to be a long winter.Remember one thing, the ECM is just a box that holds software calibration. If anybody (Erik Buell Racing,tooth-fairy..) can tell you they can sell you a program that works on YOUR bike with all the hundreds of variables out there they are full of shit! But they are more than happy to take your money!! |

@F22raptor, I'll give you credit on te ECM programming. But....if there was ever anyone who could reprogram a ECM and get it right the Erik Buell Racing would be the ones to do it. IMO they did just that. I have a 08XT and it popped on deceleration from day one and never ran right when it was cold. When my dealer loaded the latest and greatest map that the MOCO had to offer in July the bike ran like crap. I caved in and bought the Erik Buell Racing ECM after reading great things about it here. Like Froggy said, I'll never go back to the stock ECM. My bike no longer pops on deceleration, doesn't die right after start-up, doesn't run rough and more. To each his own and I am convinced that the Erik Buell Racing ECM made all the difference in the world and my bike now runs BETTER than new. Period! No one twisted my arm or forced me to buy it but I'm truly glad I did buy it. So far it has been the best value of anything I've ever found for my Uly. If you're happy with your current setup I'm happy for you. Spend your money on what makes you happy. I'll keep my Erik Buell Racing ECM and I'll be happy. YMMV |

Hey Rwcfrank, I'd send that ECM back and tell them you want a whole different one. Besides the fan logic not getting done, that decel popping should for sure be gone. That's a lean condition that's common on the stock ECM due to EPA regs. What Erik's chip does is more or less rejet your intake and you get more fuel when you should have it. For sure that popping should not be there. I'm guessing the whole chip didn't get programmed right. |

Well said Ulykan!!. Thanks. Unless he owns a Uly (his profile doesn't indicate that he does) he should keep his opinions to himself. My XT is a whole new bike since the Erik Buell Racing ECM was installed. This bike runs BETTER than new at every speed. IMO if you don't have personal experience with something then keep your opinions to yourself, especially if you don't even own a Uly. The improvements I've felt are not imaginary and I'm not drinking Erik Buell Racing Kool Aid either. |

Just curious, is there a Erik Buell Racing ECM for the 2006 ULY with an opened up air box? What does it do and what does it cost$ |

Unless he owns a Uly (his profile doesn't indicate that he does) he should keep his opinions to himself. Very true for F22raptor. On the flipside - what's Erik's bike? For those just joining us...Erik Buell's personal motorcycle is a 2006 Ulysses, a barricade orange X with bags. It is bike # 100,000, and he rides the pi$$ out of it (and so does Court, LOL). Methinks the guy (and the company) knows the "right" way to program a Uly ECM - there's definitely a personal interest there. True, the programming is just a matter of code and checking/unchecking the right boxes, etc. "Anyone" could do it...with time, patience, and a lot of research and practice. The folks (are they still Elves?) at Erik Buell Racing...have all that and MORE. Not only do they know the software in and out, they came up with it in the first place, as well as all the hardware (bikes and engine bits)!! And I gotta say (again) - I LOVE MY Erik Buell Racing ECM!!!. The only problem I have with it is, I keep burning through tires because I just..can't...park...the...bike |

O.K guys,I realise that my post "READ" alot different then I intended it to.I have helped many people on this forum and in person with their Buell issues and improvements.I was only trying to say out of frustration that there are to many variables out of Erik Buell Racing control that will effect the running if a bike(different reformulated gas mixes, bike modifications ect..)People buy these thinking it is a fix for all there running issues.I have had many requests for my fuel and timing maps from those who have heard my bike run,but I know that what works on my set-up my not work for them.I have spent many hours fine-tuning fuel curves to get it perfect. One last thing.if you look at a Erik Buell Racing race fuel map,it is not set-up to eliminate de-accel popping,as what my be perfect on a race track my not be what you want in the real world.I could set you up with a fuel map to address the way you ride and for your bike.I meant no disrespect to Erik Buell Racing, but got tired of the constant complaining on these forums about running issues.I also have to remember that not everyone has the time, equipment or ability to do this work themselves.I have received alot of harassing E-mails in regards to my post, and if I could have removed it,I would have..We are all Buell fans after all and I would appreciate if we could let this one just rest,Thanks,Brian |

F22 is correct, both him and Erik Buell Racing know their stuff. The Erik Buell Racing ECM will make a good running bike run better, but to date, every time I've seen someone complain about their bike running worse with a Race ECM, they have had some other issue that is being brought to light by the different programming. |

Brian, Thanks for clarifying your post. It's unfortunate that it didn't say what you meant to say. In any case I'm glad to know that you meant well regardless of how it was said. Bob |

Since my comment heated up the conversation I'll make a brief comment. The bike ran much much better after I installed the ebr ecm. They did not give me the 09 fan logic which was requested but after an e-mail they told me to send it back and they would change the fan logic asap. The performance deteriorated over the following month after the ebr ecm was installed and so its going back to get checked out. Since it runs as it did when new with the stock ecm there must be something going on with the ebr ecm. I dont know enough about them to judge but I was very happy the first few days after the ebr ecm install. |

How could something change in the ecm? I suspect a hardware issue. |

How could something change in the ecm? These "learn" the AFV, remember? I suspect another issue brought to light by the programming. And I don't have any decel pop on my Ulysses. I believe that's a choice made by clicking or unclicking the "decel fuel shutoff" box...but once I got the TPS reset the right way (damn hamfisted tech...myself, LOL) I haven't had a single hiccup out of my bike with the new ECM on it. |

I am very open to suggestions, what doesnt make sense is how the bike runs just fine (or should I say exactly the same as when it was new) with the old stock ecm. I would assume a hardware issue would remain regardless of which ecm I use and it doesn't. (Message edited by rwcfrank on November 06, 2010) |

just a fyi.... EAST TROY, Wis. (Nov. 17, 2006) – Buell Motorcycle Company today celebrates production of its 100,000th motorcycle, a 2007 Ulysses XB12X model, at its factory in East Troy, Wis. My 2007 TT runs a LOT better than my 2006 Uly I'll be sending my ECM into Erik Buell Racing when the snow is falling... |

I have been in touch with the nice and very responsive people at Erik Buell Racing. They assured me that the 09 fan logic has been upgraded and told me that my ecm had been configured to run a "P and A" dual outlet muffler so it must have gotten mixed up when they sent it. Honest people with a truthful story. Could have just as easily fixed it and said nothing. I am looking forward to getting the ebr ecm back. My bike is running very well with the stock ecm but the ebr ecm was just that much better. |

Hm. I coulda sworn #100k was an 06.... And "P&A" is Parts and Accessories - in other words, the "race" muffler that was available back when... |

Ive had the race ecm in for about 3 weeks. So much better. Smoother, quicker and FUN FUN FUN!!! I got the new fan logic which is nice and when I shut the bike down the fan will still come on if I rode her good enough. I gladly spent the $250.00, actually $300.00 when I added all the cool Erik Buell Racing stickers. Not because I needed the stickers for my wifes car, but because I new it supported Erik Buell Racing and gives me sliver of hope that I might have a chance to buy another American designed and built sportbike by Erik Buell. Everyones getting them for X-mas too! Ho Ho Ho! |

Hey Court - I saw that bike back in '09!
And I guess 11/17 would make it an '07. Memory just isn't what it used to be LOL |

Something I noticed after the 09 fan strategy was uploaded. When my 08 was stock and I didn't want to hear the fan run after a ride I would shut it down with the handlebar mounted kill switch and that would stop the fan from running. Now that I have the 09 fan strategy it no longer lets me shut down the fan via the run/stop switch. No big deal just an observation. Small price to pay for such a huge improvement in overall running. |

I'll take a whirring fan over a banging engine anyday Although, riding a tuber the other day I actually had a second or two of "something broke" when I shut down and had only silence...strange how you get accustomed to things! |

Another thought on buying another ECM (especially an Erik Buell Racing and at a great value) is that we won't always have an ECM available when or if the OEM pukes. I bought one for insurance as well. Euly |

Need some help please. I have an '09 XT with comfort kit installed. I want to put in the Erik Buell Racing ECM. Looked at the setup yesterday and I cannot figure out how to get a finger under the plastic shroud to hold the nut when removing the bolt from the fastener in the plastic piece furthest from the battery that holds the ECM in place. Service manual was not specific and did not see anything in this thread that helped. Don't want to mess anything up so I'm asking you guys first. Obviously I am mechtared. Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions. |
