"getting the 1190 produced in streetbike form"...Sounds great but is "he" going to sell to the public? Are suppliers still making these parts for him or does he just have a limited supply that he's using until it's gone? Is H-D still involved in this? Is Bombardier still interested in Buell?

Ahh questions, questions.....I just want to see these bikes back in showrooms with enthused people willing to sell and service them.

Finedaddy1,
In order. Yes, Yes, Noo, And probably not. Just my speculation. Definately going to sell to the public. They will build limited race bike's that will be be expensive and for racers. He is going to have to sell a street legal race version. still expensive in it's 1190cc superbike form. So do you tone it down and run "bottom end components", rods, pistons, crank etc. more like the current 1125. This would enable them to sell a 11900rr street version at a more competitive price. That would seem the most viable and economical way to get the ball rolling. Next up and pronto would be the the same line up as before, Uly, Cr, but in the 1190rr chassis. The Uly is a great bike and should gain a fan base for the adventure touring guy. The Cr will have a nische where the street fighter crowd will have something. At this point is where other companies, (bomardier?) will want to inch in to Erik's success. This is also where he should listen to his lawyer LOL!! Parts supplier should be ok, Rotax already has more into than the projected return. So in my opinion Eric taking from where they left off with Rotax, which has to be in the development stage of at least the point of the Cycleworld article. Giving them an outlet to produce what they have already developed, Rotax could easily sell or negotiate to sell the same motor in other bike's. That would help both parties really. If Erik Buell Racing is going to be a low volume manufacturer thats fine but their line up needs to expand and Rotax is a much better partner than HD could ever be. Add a sport tourer style 2 up bike like FJR, Connie, K1300 GT, RT. but with a little longer XB style frame longer swingarm and all the bodywork and gizmos of the other bikes. I can't believe with all the hype with v twins no one has built a 2 up v twin legit sport tourer. The potential is huge. Make an 850 cc version and go back to DSB and kick their buts one more time this time with a full bore ass kicker like the 848 Ducati, and once again the critics eat crow. Just like this year in DSB where Eslick is leading on a 600cc sportbike. take 1/2 of the Helicon rotax and make a single cyl. bike. Much more like what Eric had invisioned in the 1st place. Eric Buells designs and concepts need to grow better and flourish more than to what he has achieved so far. Getting with Harley has been very bitter sweet. I'll always love the sportster powered bike. But they really dont get it other than cruisers. I find that very strange that a company could be the best in building and understanding cruiser customers and be so dumb as to own Buell one of the best and most passionate designers ever in our time and turn around and spend millions on MV Agusta? WTF. HD was 4th and goal with Buell and turned the ball over for a touchdown the other way. We just need to wait for the ball to be picked up and start rolling the other way. Like I said yes, yes, noo and maybe. It's my story and I'm stickin to it.

"Rotax, which has to be in the development stage of at least the point of the Cycle World article."

Which article is this from in Cycle world? Doesn't H-D still own the tooling and whatever else to this engine?

Ohhh I just want to hear an in depth plan from the (horses mouth) on his strategy on how all of it is going to come to fruition. I wish I had unlimited funds so I could bank roll Erik and say have at it!

Do you reckon BadWeb could hold a press conference with Erik....would that not be cool?

The internet . . .

I'll bet HD stores the tooling with the non-compete and the patents.

Elvis: Thank you for the thread!

On the contrary, I actually read an article in Cycle World magazine "The demise of the Buell Motorcycle Company" it goes something like this "Almost as soon as Erik was told of the decision , he retreated to his telephone and began to look for ways to save as much of the company as he could. Insiders tell me (the editor Steve Anderson) he quickly found the obvious customer for the strategic assets in Bombardier, owner of Rotax that was to supply the engines for both. and it was willing to consider waiving some or all of it in exchange for the projects.

Down a little further in this article it read "The reason Harley agreed to pay out additional tens of millions of dollars rather than have the B2 see the light of day can only be surmised."

I took from this article that Harley could have gotten out of this (engine) contract w/ Bombardier by accepting this offer, but instead Harley decided to "pay out additional millions of dollars rather than have the B2 see the light of day."

I figure if I shelled out millions of dollars toward this contract that I would own whatever it was that I spent the money on.

Assumptions based on partial data are very risky, Finedaddy. Time has moved on since that article (although it is 100% correct at that time), and things change. The facts will make it all clear in the future.

Then should our ire towards HDI be cooled somewhat? I sure hope so.

This may be true but what fun would the internet be if we had to rely on actual FACTS!

HDI has there own problems and challenges. The way they have treated employees, regardless of what the economy does, will take a decade to recover from.

The chess pieces are certainly aligning to the favor or The Elves.

1000% agree . I am sure a lot of people are dreaming of a Buell with Rotax's 850cc parallel twin motor. I for sure am one of them , since I think that a parallel twin is the best combination of a IL4 and a twin. Compact ,light, cheap , "big bang", easy to service ..... I wish Buell made this bike first instead of the 1125R.
