I had a question, what intake is this and does it even have a filter? Also can you get it in flat black or gloss black. I'm not to much of a chrome guy as I like to get my sh*t dirty because I'm a user and abuser.
as long as you have the PRO style, it performs as well as any and better than some that are well loved!!! (at least in certain parts of the useable curve that is)
don't believe me? read BattleTwin!!! no it's not the best, and it is not the worst, if you like the looks and get the PRO version, it breaths just fine, the "ram air" effect is debate-able. i defend them all the time, i have one on my S3, and it always ran strong, never had it dynoed, but BattleTwin did that for me!
forcewinder for looks or just bolt a large K&N onto the intake. the above foam filter makes my x1 with race ecm and exhaust run slightly lean in closed loop (afv 111%, inlet seals, injectors, fuel pressure etc are sound ) So possibly room to add more fuel onto the race maps or in the case of a carb, bigger jets. A dyno will be needed to set up correctly, which is what i intend to do this winter.
I modified one of them big Edelbrock Pro Flow triangular A/Cs you see at O'Reily by having a custom cut and fit plate welded to the back so it'd bolt up, then painted it black. PLENTY of breathing room and only cost $25 . Otherwise I really like the NRHS Hurricanflow A/Cs with the 3" K&N filter.
My choice was the S&S "B" Clone air box with K&N filter on a re-calibrated CV carb, and it works very well, tho I have no dyno results to show, my friends with "foreign" bikes have the utmost respect for my Cyclone...
hypecharger on my sportster made it slower. the curve sucked mid to top and i banged my knee on it constantly. mine wasnt a pro (fatter)but if it was, i would have hit my knee even more (and a buell is closer to the knee than the sportster was) and the chrome falls off after not washing/waxing it for 2 years... the buell race hamcan is the best in my opinion. large filter area, lightweight, easy to clean, doesnt rust or rattle off... ive tried almost everything, and other than a k&n filter pod off of a 73 duster (pain in the aSS to mount and remove to clean) the carbon fiber race hamcan wins hands down. just my opinion.
If you want to make HORSE POWER and TORQUE the engine must be able to suck air(BIG AIR CLEANER FILTER) and NON-RESTRICKING EXHAUST SYSTEM, "LOOKS DO NOT COUNT" !!!
Randy Span, At the time, it was weird to glass bead the chrome off...LOL! I recently had it powder coated gloss black and switched the screws to black too. My knee doesn't quite touch the back of it, (I'm 5'9")
