So, in May I started working for an RV dealer in sales. They know I ride a ton, and they've seen my bikes. Most of 'em. The Uly, and the S2..."those are nice bikes". The CR - "that black bike you have, I like that one best". I let the tags expire on my S1W by accident, so it's been sitting for a bit and hadn't been to work with me yet. Until Saturday. And again today. NONE of the other bikes - check that, all of the other bikes *combined* - didn't get the reaction the S1W got out of my co-workers. Some ride - they ask tech questions, wanna hear it, wanna know how fast is it, etc. But this one...even the NON-biker-types - the ones who'd never go NEAR a motorcycle - were drawn to it. Asking questions about it. And when I fired it up and set off Sherri's car alarm with the rumble and crackle out of the (probably needs repacked) race muffler... Priceless. |

That is awesome I had my X1 with the full d&d system on it. And I was in the underground parking lot of the 3rd district court building here and i cracked my throttle a little since it echoes......Well i came up to the toll\parking booth and the little old lady running the booth screamed at me!! She said "you hurt my ears all the way over here" and she promptly hit a button and blocked my leaving the parking structure with the toll arm and then the court guards came bursting through the doors and told me to shut it off and get off the bike! She starts telling them i was revving the guts out of it and saying i hurt her ears. Then they start saying what should we cite him for? Noise ordinance? one officer says disturbing the peace, one of them even said criminal mischief! Then they start in on the exhaust system and start barking that it is illegal and they can impound my bike. I had to think quick and i told them it was a factory upgrade option for my year bike. Apparently it's illegal to do what i did??? I barely revved it up! I started apologizing to the old lady profusely and said i meant no harm to you or anybody else. And please tell the officers not to cite me. Luckily she said ok and i was free to ride out. WOW THAT WAS CLOSE ONE!! (Message edited by preybird1 on July 20, 2010) |

Well...here's a pic from a Sportfest a couple years ago. Bike's basically unchanged save for a Buell race exhaust and OEM hugger and bars now.

Rat, you still got those crossroads ? I was wondering if the thought of an S1W registry had been considered by anyone. Considering the relatively low production # and even fewer survivors, i would think some purists might wanna document those that are left for future reference? i for one would be interested in knowing how many of which color combos and what not are still out there. When shopping for mine, i think i came across a total of 4 or 5 for sale in a nationwide search, fwiw...

Thanks Rat, i thought there was one out there. I'll shoot you the info this evening. Looks like 16 bikes on the spreadsheet so far, maybe it can be a sticky in the KV or something similar so it doesn't get lost?... My bike's last 4 digits are 5034, build date is July 97, she's 13 years old this month! Haven't seen an earlier build date yet, wonder what month they began? james |
