im interested what are all the different tanks that are out there that can be swapped onto an s1? i have the factory tank, and would love to have an extra gallon, and an extra inch or two of height to it, so i dont have to lean down so far. anything out there that would fit the bill without looking too retarded? |

Well you can fit the 5 gallon manta tank but it is the same height. AND you will need a custom or S1W seat. Other than that there is custom, there is a guy I think on BW and another in Japan that made a aluminium tank for their Buell. If you wanted to go way weird you can fit an S2 tank on there (a S2 has a 4 gallon plastic tank under the skin) it will be a bit taller than the S1 and not as wide as the manta. BUT It is flimsy, black and really unfinished... |

I've got a Manta tank on my S-1W I'm looking to trade out for the smaller tank myself. Send me a note if you're interested. I didn't know you had to swap seats if you went from big to small and vice/versa. Can anyone else confirm this?

You only have to swap if you go from small to big. And that is only if you have the stock S1 seat. If you have a S1W, the Euro seat or Pro series or any other after market seat you are fine and will fit the large or small tank... |

It's a 4.5 gal tank, and it'll fit on S1s. Rick has a really cool track S1 with an S2 tank on it (no tank cover). |

Whoops... The reference I found says fuel capacity is 20.4 liters, which is a hair over 5 gallons... |

And by that reasoning, I think an X1 tank will fit as well, but you have to change from EFI fittings to a petcock. |

I knew a guy that had the S2 tank on for more bar clearance (using clip-ons for the track), he had a vinyl cover (faux carbon fiber) made for it that looked great and added a bit of body too. Looked pretty sharp on his M2 with a S1 tail. I also agree that Rick's S1 with the S2 tank looks pretty good. I don't know how you guys with the little tank can stand it, seems like I'm filling up all the time with the manta tank as it is. |

And by that reasoning, I think an X1 tank will fit as well, NOPE! The mount is NO where near what the S1, M2, S2, S3 or S1W is. Instead of a split tang that you place a bolt between it has a large tab that has a strap that holds it down with two bolts... |

Ah-HAH. (says the guy who's never owned an X1!) I'll go back to hiding on the 1125 board or something now... |

spidey, why wont the early tail work? I ask because i run a 97 m2 tail on my bike, and a manta tank. The seat, while it lines up, could be better. |

spidey, why wont the early tail work? It's not the tail(s) it is the seat pans. I ask because i run a 97 m2 tail on my bike, and a manta tank. The seat, while it lines up, could be better. Take the seat off and look where the tank meets the seat and that is why... If you look at an early S1/M2 gas tank there is a 'divot' and under the S1, early M2 seat there is a bulge that fits in there. The Manta tanks do not have this divot... |

The small fuel tank has enough fuel in it to get me far enough to where I want to get off the bike and stretch my legs, and let my butt rest. Dean |

I bought a brand new S1 seat from a dealership I stopped at on the way home from that ride thingy in October and didn't even check for that bulge, now I hope it fits. Okay, Spidey, I'll bite. What's a butfer? |

Poopin', ha-ha Me? Stock S1 single with the strap. I'll pull it out of the plastic when I go down to the garage later to clean up and fiddle with bike parts. I just got it as a spare in case anything happened to the seat I've got on the bike now.

Did anyone say S3T tank from a 98 for that extra half gallon of fuel capacity? I bought one from a 99+ model and resold it when I saw the mounting for the petcock wasn't gonna match up to the fuel pump mount on the EFI bikes. But a 98 has the manta tank and was carb'ed. ...just sayin... |
