I just ran out of gas for the third time in 2 months. The low fuel light seems to not be bright enough or something. It shows up when I go back for the bike with gas, but I don't remember seeing it before it runs out. I double checked this time just before I ran the rest of the way to work. I've seen posts about low fuel light coming on too often, etc. First question: does anyone have an issue with theirs not coming on and what did you do about it? Second question: Can the low fuel light bulb be replaced with something that is brighter? (Message edited by bcrawf68 on April 06, 2010) (Message edited by bcrawf68 on April 06, 2010) |

When the low fuel light comes on, the gauges switch to the Fuel Trimpometer that count up. The LFL is the same brightness as the other lights, and I think its an LED not a bulb. |

Getting my gf to take me back to the bike with some gas. I'll check the odo and again for the lfl. thanks FresnoBuell/Froggy. |

I will mention it again because I just hit my first low fuel light issue. The odometer definitely changes to a fuel odo that starts counting up. I was already 3.5 miles into my reserve by the time I noticed that my fuel light was on. It definitely sneaks up on you. |

Man, don't rely on the LFL... WHen you fill up reset the trip to 0 and after 100 Miles be "gas minded"... I do it on both the Buells and it works like a charm. I guess you could rig a strobe light up to the wiring harness that would blast away in your face when it comes on. Problem is it might scare you and then you'd crash. CONUNDRUM! |

Fuel Trimpometer?
Or Fuel Pimpometer? Either way, they both start at zero |

I reset my Trip 1 counter every time I fuel up. Trip 2 is for whatever else I want to measure. Around 150-170 miles, I get gas. Sometimes this involves the low fuel light, sometimes not. It's basically a fuel gauge for me - my riding is pretty consistent, so I get about the same range on each tank. |

Lately neither my LFL or Low Fuel Trip have come on or activated when I'm low on gas. It wasn't until I ran out or coasted it into a gas station for the 3rd time that I realized I'm not blind but it was faulty, both systems. Odd to say the least. Regardless, resetting the trip and refueling around 100-120 is prudent (depending on your average mileage and style), just crunch the numbers and you'll have an idea. |

After picking the bike up yesterday, I checked it again. No LFL, the odo did not change and the tank was totally empty. No sloshing in the tank. Couldn't even smell gas with the cap removed. It must be the fuel sending unit. Or... |
