Which Donnelson's? St.Chas RR or 21/67? 21/67 has the EatRite Diner across the street for breakfast. St.Chas RR has a QT...used to be a good breakfast spot east about a mile on the north. |

Mark and Neil...Shi#, I forgot all about Granite City until John mentioned it this evening and there was a poster up at Shady's...Unfortunately I have made plans for tomorrow evening that cannot be changed as they involve three other couples...Sorry... I'm meeting up with some Chi-Town Buellers at the Dragon. Any SLABers wanna go? Bob...do ya have any route sheets for the area already made up? Ya know me...following tail lights. I really like the route we took that touched GA. Of course in that whole area...no bad routes right? By the way Bob...that visa card was never located and there's been no activity on it. I'll get square with ya. DAve |

DAve...I'll put the six routes from last year's rally in the mail to you in the morning...If they will not get to you in time I can try to attach them or copy them here...They are 1-2-3 files, unfortunately not Excel files and sometimes they do not format to text as well as I would like...Let me know if you need them electronically...Have FUN! See Ya! Bob |

Thanks BOb. I'm leaving in the early am if I can drag my ass outta bed so electronically would be great if I can read 'em. I'll look at a couple of the Gap's web sites and see what they have too. DAve |

Mark, You need to hook up with racerboy or V2win. They know all the roads and restaurants!!!! As a fellow Illinoisian I will assure you that we have very few roads that compare to what Is just SW of STL. Keith

Gravedigger, yep Demon Blue, but black frame. Bob, hope 2 hook up with you while there. I hear you guys have what passes as decent BBQ, although I have yet to find anything to surpass Wolfs BBQ in Evansville, IN. But I keep looking |

Thanks John, hey everyone...things are moving along here on the east coast, the roads suck and there is a shortage of buells but I could be somewhere worse. Hit Deals Gap a month ago for the first time, talk about a real confidence booster. The M2 is in a few hundred pieces, fixing neglected oil leaks, should be back together in a week or so. If any of you get this way shoot me a message, I'll show you some flat, straight roads. Adam |

Deal's Gap...July 18 - 20... I just spoke with Francois and they still have five rooms available Friday and six Saturday...The remainder of this message is from a previous post... We can begin to make our reservations as follows: Deal's Gap Motorcycle Resort...1.800.889.5550...Closed for the season but you can sometimes catch them there doing their mail order processing...Mention that you're with HSTA...They have a very limited number of rooms (about 15) so...Well, you get the idea that if you want to stay at DGMR you'd better get on your horse... http://www.dealsgap.com/ Tapoco Lodge...1.800.822.5083...About a mile from DGMR south on 129...They are also closed for the season and you will be asked to leave your contact info...This is the place where we buy our BEER!...Also a limited number of rooms...They have a good restaurant on site that closes very early... http://www.tapocolodge.com/ Fontana Village Resort...1.800.849.2258...About 6 miles from DGMR on 28 and the "nicest" of the three...A pretty good restaurant is on site... http://seventhside.com/vhosts/fontanavillagecom/webpages/index.php Plans are to have a hotdog & chili cookout on Friday evening and BBQ Saturday evening at DGMR...Their "new" restaurant will probably not be ready in time for us... Please acquire a Tennessee and North Caorlina map and bring them to Third Twosday at Malone's and I will mark off some suggested roads... See Ya! Bob |

I left for NC on Wed and hit rain rain and more rain. Meanwhile my bike was acting up a bit so I headed to a reputable Buell dealership (Tilley's!!!) in Winston-Salem, NC. Traffic was bad and got in a number of traffic jams around Knoxville, TN. (They cost me about 3 hrs) Thursday I found out I got the city wrong (hahahaha) and had to back track to Statesville, NC to have my bike looked at by Brian the Buell guy (aka Buckinfubba). A premier Buell dealership! They fit me in, diagnosed the problem, replaced the speedo (toast) and temp sensor and got me back on the road. The temp sensor was causing the engine to die periodically and I didn't want that happening taking a corner at .80 or more Racerboy/V2Win speed. :-) My battery was also acting acting kind of flaky but I figured I'd order one when i got back. (Later on the was home in a traffic jam in Nashville it was acting like it was having a hard time staying charged at idle) I hit more traffic so I called it an early day, got a hotel room, pool, dinner and beer. :-) Friday I got up bright and early and headed once more to Deal's Gap for riding. Mountain roads were clogged with big lumbering cruisers (Honda Hoot in Knoxville) that were just going too dern slow. (Oh and I hit more rain) Deal's Gap was crazy with bikes. I went by the Fontana campground but no one was around. I saw Brent's (Chicago) van though and decided to ride around. There must have been 300 motorcycles at 129/28!! I hooked up with a couple of sport bike riders on the Cherohala (sweeeeeet) and we rode together for about an hour or more passing cruisers while attempting to have a good time. They seemed impressed over my riding seeing I was carrying a tent, sleeping bag, and BIG saddle bags where they were lean and light. Come to find out both were Germans here test riding new Hondas for a German motorcycle magazine. We rode a bit more up 360 but I decided I had enough of the slow traffic we hit every half mile or less. Soooooo I decided to save my time off and headed home. I got back around 11 pm Friday night. Much of it was in a daze of sorts. :-) I should have pulled over and slept but I decided to just take breaks and press on. Once the sun dropped it became damn cold! Thank goodness I brought a jacket to wear under my riding suit. :-) I'm ready for July's ride. I need to confirm with the War Department and book a room. Camping is okay but I'd rather travel light. If I owned an injected Buell, there would always be a spare temp sensor, oxygen sensor, and the special snap-on socket to remove them in my saddle bags.
