Does anyone have any experience with the drummer and Jardine quiet insert? My buddy bought a drummer for his 2008 Ulysses and complains that his bike now surges at slow speeds. He did mention that the bike always seemed to surge a bit at slow speeds but after installing the drummer it has gotten worse. One of the things he used to do was ride in first gear about 3500 rpm to minimize the surging but doesn't want to do that with his drummer because of the extra noise. This is of course in his neighborhood, I know some of you just want to say "F" the neighbors and just ride it at 3500 rpm. He is more respectful than that, and quite frankly so am I. I made the suggestion that maybe he should try the quiet insert that maybe it would help with the surging (if it is because of a more lean condition because of the drummer) and possible make his pipe quite a bit more neighborhood friendly. But I really have no experience with the drummer and insert. If anyone here has, maybe you could share some insight on the quiet insert and drummer combination. |

The older ECM programmings on the 08's tend to surge more, I recommend he either gets it reflashed to newer programming, or get a retune. The crankcase breather reroute can also help smooth it out. |

What constitutes older programing on the 08's? |

I have an 08 9SX w/ a K&N and will be getting a Drummer over the winter sometime. Will my ECM be fine the way it is with that combo? |

They updated it a few times during the production run, either way, there are newer flashes available regardless of when it was built. Your dealer needs to plug in the digital tech computer and download the update for you, just ask them to check it whenever you are in for service next. |

Just put the QMI Jardine insert on my bike. Seemed to lesson the surging at low rpms. Kept the deep sound and made it more tolerable in my helmet. Here is a link to hear it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U2O0rFivQXU |
