I would like to start by saying I am very sorry for those that work at BMC. Being laid of in the late 70's was not fun and starting over is very, very hard. Also as a Psychologist that was put out of private practice by Managed Health Care and Big Pharm (and their Happy Pills)after 20 some years, I am truly sorry for Erik and his dream. Now moving on how could we set-up a list of parts that we can find sourced out? I will continue to use sponsors of this site first however. I was thinking such as front fork seals and bushings (lost left one and could not find proper size to get from local suzuki/yamaha dealer), rear bearings, fans, Voltage regulators etc. In addition what parts have been upgraded since the 06 inaguaration Uly's. I know that the belt is in at least its third iteration, I also am aware that the #77 connector on the VR has ben upgraded, but what about the VR? Is the fan a newer version from the 06? Has the headlight housing been updated so the lo does not point straight down at the ground when the hi is adjusted properly? Also can the stator from the 08 be swapped into the 06 Uly with the proper change of the VR and thus add more dependablity. Also I have not heard of any VR failing since the intial rash, had the new plug and replacement VR corrected a defect? Maybe our collective knowledge and sources can start to answer some of these questions and add to the list of information so that we can keep the Buell and Uly active, on the road and a presence commemerating this bike and its founder and the workers that pulled it all together. | ||

The shorter list would be what hasn't been upgraded. The VR's are fine, the issues were with the connector. Fan is still the same, its the exact same fan in the 03 Firebolt. Headlamps are one fixed assembly. The aiming of it complies with DOT regulations. They did recently revise the part number, not sure how it affects aim and light output. Hugh asked about the stator retrofit. I don't know if it would work or not. I don't see the point, the newer unit is lower in output, and the issue was a connector, the the VR or stator themselves. |
