The fan on my '06 Uly S/N 564 finally quit last weekend. It was actually the fan from '06 Uly S/N 044 which was totaled in the deer strike. My replacement '06 had one of the bad fans so I transplanted from the totaled bike. Anyway, after a total of 70,000 miles (55K on Uly 044 plus 15K on Uly 564) it finally quit last weekend. I guess I got my money's worth. Since the weather's cooling I'm not sure I'll replace it for a while (I've had a new one on hand for a couple years). Kinda nice to shut the engine off and hear...silence :-) Plus I'm tired of digging around in that area after recently installing the Comfort Kit. Kinda wish it'd have failed then. --Doc |

You sure its not just the comfort kit doing its job? |

With the comfort kit installed the new one should last 280,000 miles. |

I must tell you Dr. Gregg that I have learned ALOT from your posts and I say "Thank You!" So I should have another 60k left on my fan, but I doubt it because much of my riding is done at over 100 degrees and even with the comfort kit installed, the fan starts running a little later in the ride but once it turns on it never shuts down. I would panic if I didn't hear the fan! |

Its not that hard to remove it should you desire. Not sure why you would though. |

I'm with Dmm. I get tired of the stupid thing. Rationalize it all you want regarding improving the engine's longevity, etc. The damn thing is a nuisance. For me, the Comfort Kit didn't reduce the fan runtime very much; it mainly redirected the air. And yes, I wear earplugs all the time. It's still a pain. As usual, just my $0.02. I still like the Uly a lot, but I gotta admit this latest business has me lookin' around...Mrs. Greg is not happy at that. --Doc |

Haha, once I dropped a earplug, it bounced off my airbox cover and rolled in between the scoops. The vortex of the two fans blowing trapped the earplugs and it was flying back and forth so fast I couldn't catch it till the fans shut off a few minutes later. |
