So Ive been toying around with the idea of buying a TT and dropping a Uly subframe on it... Well a couple weekends ago I was racing at Blackhawk Farms and was talking to a guy helping me out in Buell Alley (Sorry I forgot your name so I cannot give you credit). He gave me the idea to go with the TT suspension on my Uly and change out the kickstand. So im curious, anyone try this? If so does it gain you much in the seat height issue? How much ground clearance do you lose? How much does it affect the handling? Any feedback would be great! Thanks guys. |

Why not change to XT suspension? Parts are about $1k for the two front fork legs, complete rear shock (shock, spring, and adjuster), and kick stand. That lowers the seat a little over an inch and lets you keep your nifty remote rear pre-load adjuster. I seriously considered the change myself a while back. |

IIRC he was wearing one of those mechanic style Buell shirts, he was doing a lot of running around for me trying to fix my firebolt after I went down in that morning practice session. He is a hell of a great guy I just cant remember his name. He was the one that was with the guy that had the bandaged up hand if that helps! |

Hughlysses- is the XT suspension strong enough to withstand offroading? You do bring up a good point about the remote preload adjuster! As far as the front suspension, I think what I might end up doing is just dropping my forks in the tree. I have the 2 inch rox risers on there so I have the clearance. |

There was a guy at Buelltoberfest that had a STT shock on his 08 Uly, then he dropped the trees in the forks to even it out. He was very happy with his setup. I can't recall his name. I suck with names, but never forget a bike. |

I put a TT shock on the back of my '08, and dropped the forks 7/8" in the trees. The rear came down more than the front, perhaps 1 1/4". The TT shock has different preload/rebound adjustments, and of course only a ramped collar for preload. But I like the lower stance, and since I ride 100% solo, it's easy enough to set the spring. Oh! I had to shorten the kickstand a bit over an inch. |

Froggy, that was me. Chris, I followed Marinus on this. The Buell tech on Blueridge HD told me that the STT shock is valved closer to the X than the XT. I made sure the muffler was on a lower parallel plane. One inch risers are more than enough. I loosened up the rear compression and rebound quite a bit. I have not noticed any difference in handling on the street or dirt. Bill |

Bill- is full pre-load on the TT shock adequate for two-up riding with bags? |

Hugh, I don't know. I weight 170. I have it set on position 1. Going to TWO I had about 70 lbs of extra luggage. I set it on position 4. It was more that enough. Don't know what it would do two up. |

Hey guys thanks a lot for the input. Im pretty sure I will be going the route of the TT shock. Im not concerned abotu 2up riding, just riding with a lot of gear on the back, but im thinking i will still be ok with the preload maxed out. Marinus-any logic to dropping the front less than the rear? Does that little bit of change actually cause a riding difference? |

You're thinking of Alex. Hyperpro makes a lowering kit for the Uly for $319. New fork springs and oil and a new spring for the shock. Lower it 1 inch. |

Chris: the only logic was that I'm only running 1" handlebar risers, so that limited the amount of drop. Oh, I guess one other thing -- I thought it was possible that I could bottom out the forks going off a huge jump (Riiiiiiight...), and then the fender might get into the bottom triple clamp, be squooze by that clamp, and foul the front tire. Endo! That possibility is remote... but it let me be happier with the 7/8". |

Rocco, Thanks! I have an info request into hyperpro. You have any experience with them? Seems to be a pretty practical way to go. |
