OK, You've got a WP shock. They've been pretty good (if you contact the right people) about helping out with the shocks. Perhaps someone else here has a contact. If I were you I'd contact their Great Britain importer : WP UK Ltd. Carlton Road, Manby Louth, Lincs LN11 8UT Telephone : +44 1507327509 Fax : +44 1507327247 E-mail : wpsuspension@btopenworld.com And see if there are any authorized shops in Ireland. Failing that, you need to find a good motorcycle shop, preferably with racing experience and see if they can replace that hose. You might also try here as that looks like a decent Ireland moto site. Failing that, if you have a spare $700(US)you can upgrade to a Penske shock. |

Has anyboby tried putting inverted Showas on a M-2? Can the stock dash be put on the trees? Would the handling be worth the hassel? |

Or he could take the bike in for the shock recall and spend no money. Be a shame to lose one of the last exposed spring shocks though. Mine has leaked again and I am afraid it is toast. Gonna try WP direct for repair. |

Wman the Showa inverted fork will fit so will the M2 dash but you will need different brackets to hold your headlight on to your fork because they are larger tubes.I'd have to say you would have to be pretty of an agressive rider to tell them apart |

I just took my S3T out for a ride for the first time this season yesterday and I noticed that the rear of the bike felt a little bouncy. I verified the air pressure and that looked ok. Could there be something wrong with the rear shock? Any ideas on what to check? Any input would be much appreciated. Jim |

Jim, you should probably run through a "setup" of the rear suspension so we have a base to start the adjustments from. Preload, compression and rebound. Look at the top of this page for what you should set them to as a starting point. Then ride and describe how it rides. |

Bouncy? Look for oil seeping from the shock. DAve |

Dave, It looks as though the shock is seeping oil. Is that signs of the shock needing to be replaced? I have a 99 S3T with apx 15k mi. What is the normal life of that shock? Just wondering. Jim |

Sounds like a blown shock Jim. (The bouncy bouncy is the tell tale sign and the oil confirms) Do you have the most current recall shock? If no...get the newest one and your problem is solved. If yes...then I think it's under warranty for 12 months after installation. If it's been longer, suggest to the service department that you'd like to seek assistance by having it covered or a part of it covered under 'good will adjustment' because there is a history of shock 'issues'. If that all fails...throw yourself at the mercy of Buell Customer Service and be polite. Some sucking up wouldn't hurt either. Buell has always taken very very good care of me. DAve |

Dave, I am not sure if the recall was ever done to tell you the truth. I bought it in 2001. So it sat on the floor for apx 2 yrs. Would the purchasing dealer have the info on this bike? Like warranty service and such? I stopped taking my bike to this dealer because of the poor service. I have the bike scheduled for service. I will let you know how I make out. Thanks for all of your help! Jim |

You need to beg and plead for a '01 style shock just in case they want to put the recall 99/00 shock on. Oh, and remember the 99 S3 wasn't included in the Showa shock recall. Josh 99 S3T (and others) |

Jim, They can research your VIN to see if/when the recall was accomplished. The new shock as a much more robust shock mount. My '99 S3 was replaced at no charge. Josh...Mine was replaced under .... SAFETY RECALL CODE 0820 - NEW SHOCK ABSORBER This campaign involves all 1999 M2 Cyclone and all 2000 X1 Lightning, M2 Cyclone, S3 Thunderbolt and S3T Thunderbolt model Buell motorcycles manufactured between January 5, 1998 and May 31, 2000. HELP! My shock (98 S3) is the pre-2001 covered showa. It's beginning to drip. I have seen the recent conversations here about the later recall, and the info at the top of this page. I contacted the nearest HD dealer that wanted to mess with Buells, Springfield, MO. and they said that the goodwill was declined, even the $100 deductable. New shock $650. To whom can I appeal to to reconsider the $100 ded? |

I changed my fork oil today, the left fork leg had green oil and the right one had red oil. I bought the bike new and it has never been worked on. Any one else seen this? |

Also on the fork front, the only reference to fork oil I can find in the Service manual lists an HD part number . . . can anyone tell me what weight it is? I'm replacing the springs with heavier ones, and was thinking about increasing the amount of oil slightly in increase the comprtession damping, but would love to know what oil weight should be my baseline |

Bomber, I ran into the same thing a while back. I used 5w, wanted to use 7.5 but I couldn't find any at nearby shops. If memory serves, I never got a response from anyone regarding the stock oil weight. I need to pick up two quarts as I too have purchased heavier springs. Which ones did you get? I went with Traxion 1k springs. Oh yeah, by the way, my shock started pissing oil this weekend! Crap! BCS told me this morning that if the extended warranty doesn't cover it, they will do a good will for $100. Better than having to pay full boat I guess. Brad |

John, The extended warranty won't cover the shock Now to get the dealer to step up and do the paperwork. $100 sucks but way better than full boat retail. Brad |

Does anyone have a Timkin part number for the 3 rear wheel bearings for a 98 S1W. I'm not paying $41.00 each from my dealer. Thanks. |

Blake . . .. thanks . . . .5 weight? not doubting those knowledgeable folk, it's just when your suspension tuning days started right after the featherbed frame came into being, hard srpings and thick oil was the only way to control anything (smile) thanks for the input, sir |

Bomber--old age rears its ugly head again, eh? I was looking for 30W fork oil for the Norton a couple of weeks ago, and the parts guys at the local shops had never heard of anybody using oil that heavy in their forks. I'm half expecting some bright young thing to ask me if it's true that street bikes once had kick starters... ...sheesh... r-t |

Bomber, I bought some heavier springs for my M2 from Technoflex. They recommended using 10w oil and setting the air gap at 130mm for my weight of around 220lb. It improved the handling a lot. Very noticeable at Croix doing trackdays. PPiA |
