Why can't everyone see what's going on here? There are several Buells racing in the AMA series this year. There is only one winning and it's because of the rider. All that happened was that Slick threw a leg over a bike that actually handled and the rest is history.

I would be willing to bet that if Slick rode that Kawi he beat and the Kawi rider rode the Buell. Mr. Daniel Eslick would win.

Uh, how many races does a bike need to win to be considered "competitive"

I'm sorry, AMA Formula Xtreme. However, the point was not to knock Buell but to point out that displacement is not an indicator of horsepower or success in racing. The XBRR was disappointing in the big dog racing arena while sporting 75 cc more than the successful 1125R.

it had way more than 75cc more than the 1125. The xbrr was bored out bigger than a normal xb12 engine. I want to say it was bored out to like 1300+ or 1400+

Who wants to see bikes go slower than last year?

True genius here. I'll take bar banging racing over 10 MPH faster on the straights any time. Can anyone really tell the difference between 180 and 190 MPH anyway?

After watching the video of the last lap I wonder about all the fuss about Buell being in the mix. On the straights they didn't seem to catch the 600's. In the corners the riders' skills are more in evidence.

But I do prefer the sound of a twin over the I4 motors.

That's right. The XBRR is 1339cc.

Maybe the lower numbers at the track have more to do with the fact EVERYONE IS BROKE, just a thought.

I second/third the request. Please cite your source. Liars suck. NASCAR hating racing bigots suck too.

How much would anyone wager that just one of the AMA Roadracing pros would turn down a NASCAR sized purse? I wouldn't bet a penny on it.

And, from what I see, the new tech rules are less spec series and thus less like NASCAR, and more like good old CCS club racing.

Apparently the logic module in the brains of some of these DMG haters has fried. They seem to think that only allowing the wealthiest factory teams to have the best racing machines is great for the sport. What kind of @%^$ed up logic is that!?

Go Slick and Go Buell Racing!

Go Taylor Knapp and Larry Pegram!

What's funny is the mechanical bias that an IL4 bike is the BEST machine. Given the rules, why not encourage growth of the Big Four?

If they are being so unfairly treated following the rules, why not encourage them to build a 72* V-Twin to compete against the Buell?

I seem to remember when the Big Four were getting their asses handed to them by Ducati that both Honda and Suzuki built 90* V-Twin to be the "Ducati Beater".

If within the rules, why must Buell and every other company comply with the "standard" established by the Big Four?

Who the hell deemed the IL4 engine the pinnacle of motorcycledom?

Odd that if the rules don't ONLY favor IL4 bikes that they must be "unfair".

Twenty five years ago or so the tubers were born. All the press ragged on them cause the shook themselves apart and had less performance that the current 600cc middle wgts. Put a motor in it they cried. Those poor tubers got their butt whooped.

Oh-three out come the Xb's. They got a little better treatment from the press. They also fared a bit bet against the 600cc middle wgts. They even tryed the XBRR 1340 cheeter bike racing the 600's with limeted successs. Getting close but still not quite, put a motor in it.

Now we have come 25 years. Its got motor? All new water cooled, over head cams, ect ect. Its even supplied from the great Rotax company. Now 25 years later we have parity with 600's, yes, and in race trim can actually beet them! I'm so glad HD/Buell has aimed/set the bar so high! I should be impressed, our American SUPERBIKE can now compeete with middle wgts.

Any one read Cycle World mag? I am realy susprized there was no crying from the cool-aid drinkers that Buell was left out of the liter(1000's)Superbike shoot out? I bet it was left out cause of its only on parity with 600's, not real superbikes. Not ready for the big time yet, put a motor in it. Only 25 more years to run with the big dogs.

Hope you all enjoy your new NAS-CRAP hats, tees & tatoos.

You're a little harsh there Danny.

Power to weight ratio....check it out sometime haters.

I am disappointed that our 1125r power to weight ratio is on par with bikes' of half displacement. However, the 1125RR is just what i've been waiting for and enthusiastically wait for the Superbike racing to commence.I don't care in what numbers the 1125RR is produced, just that those who want them can get them.

GO BUELL RACING

A top ten in its first race weekend, the first ever Buell Superbike, the Buell 1125RR, being run purely privateer is by any rational standard firmly in the pack and poised to commence running down the big dogs. You can take that to the bank.

If all you intend to do is badmouth Buell motorcycles here, then take a hike. Your inane gossipy Buell-hater nattering is unwelcome here.

Calling the XBRR a "cheater bike" is simply dishonest, a lie used to try to belittle Buell Motorcycles and the 200 good folks who design and build them. Liars suck.

Ill be the first to admit that im a dullard compared to the rest of you when it comes to stats & racing; and may have no claim in this discussion...but my perception / opinion is that if the nearly STOCK 2 CYLINDER Buell performs well enough to compete with MODIFIED 4 CYLINDER imports....and sounds super cool AND corners like noones biz....WTF is the dilemma? and where can I get one of those shirts? Id like to wear it while I sip my KOOL-AID and sport my TATTOOS while watching the 1125 whip around the track.

Interesting article by Kevin Cameron in the new Cycle World, discussing AMA and American branded motorcycles in racing. It is an unusual article for him, but definitly getting at things he's been pondering as of late. He discusses the faux Buell and HD drag racers, as well as the real Buell 1125 road racer.

AmericanmadeXB: You can get RMR shirts from Bree with RMR Racing. She has posted the email address of the guy selling them for them in the Racing Forum. I think the thread name is RMR Merchandise. The key is to send the guy like 5 emails in a 5 minute span, as I guess all email he gets goes straight to SPAM.

What is Faux?? I can see his point...neither engine is remotely similar to a production engine beyond the facts that they are twin cylinder, and are fuel injected on gasoline...no wait...the Harley bikes recently got allowance to go to 4 valve heads like the V-rod they try to emulate.

Do not misunderstand...both bike are legal for competition as Harleys and Buells by NHRA rules...and I'm no hater...but facts are facts.

Go Hector Arana!!!!! Go S&S!!! Go G2 Racing!!! Go Buell!!!

What is "faux", which means "false" about either the Buell or the H-D drag bikes?

Cameron writes that they are ground up purpose built race engines "arbitrarily" badged as Harleys or Buells, competing with Suzukis. His point is that AMA has revitalized the series by letting these bikes be badged as if they were based on American production motorcycles, and tweaking the formula to keep these V-twins and the in-line fours competitive.

Read the article, it's not negative, just observant. It certainly does not bash Buell in any way.

You know Cameron, he's written great articles about Buell, Harley, and S&S. I believe he is the best motorcycle journalist in the world, and has a background starting as an AMA race mechanic.

Who the hell deemed the IL4 engine the pinnacle of motorcycledom?

I don't think it is, but I would argue that the initial introduction of the IL4 Engine did change EVERYTHING about motorcycling...IE when Honda released the CB750 Four, going against at that time BSA, Norton, Triumph, HD, Vincent and BMW. The effect was a low cost bike that had tremendous power and reliability for the time period and truly was an excellent motorcycle. I think to a point that the IL4 was lauded for the reliability, especially compared to the days of the Lucas Brit bikes, I had a Triumph 650 and I affectionately called the headlight the "Prince of Darkness" especially in rain in Colorado, every day at 4:30 it would rain in the summer leaving me to wait for it to dry out to run or have lights....is it the pinnacle? I would say no, I think the V4 is actually the pinnacle due to the blend of high revving horsepower and the torque they create.(Incidentally the HD NOVA project, from what I have read and been told, is the basis for the Yamaha V-MAX, that was done in a technology swap in the early 80's when HD had just repurchased itself from AMF) They have a smooth powerband yet can run effectively with any configuration of bike, IE the new Aprilia RSV4 in WSBK. Very young in their program yet with an experienced rider, have some great finishes and finally a win in their first year of competition with that bike. V-Twins do sound so much better, are more "streetable" bikes, IMHO, both of my buells are excellent street bikes and a joy to ride, but I wouldn't mind an RC30 to rip around on....or that Aprilia, the problem is, with any Italian bike, is the gremlin's, when and where are they gonna strike?? Hence the reliability of the Japanese engineering for high revving powerful bikes...and of course now BMW. Of course all of that is just opinion....

You'll be seeing a V4 from Harley in the new future, bet on it. It may have been here already if it weren't for the economy.

There was the big internal battle at Honda in the 80s and 90s between the V4 and IL4 camps. I don't know why the IL4 camp won out, but I'd guess it is the relative production price vs. power. Now the damn IL4 literbikes pull of the bottom with monster torque anyway, but not back then.
