I just installed the factory race kit for my '03 XB9S (many thanks to Al @ American Sport Bike for his help in tracking down a hard-to-find '03 race ECM). I love it, vroooom!

Question: I'm getting some noticible popping (not terrible, kinda cool, just quite noticible) on decel and it's not as smooth at low RPM as the stock setup.

Is this pretty much normal, or am I looking at some sort of tweaking?

At high RPM it is totally smooth and delicious!!

Not being quite as smooth at low RPMS is pretty much typical, I'd say.

Regarding popping on decel, that might be due to a slight air leak at the slip-on joint caused by changing the mufflers. Did you use sensor-safe RTV at the joint and install a new clamp? If not, don't worry about it; just ride, knowing it's not going to blow up. : )

Feels good in the upper RPM range now, doesn't it?

Sparky...Upper RPM is now FABULOUS! I'm loving it!

I'll bet it is an air leak at the joint. I need a new clamp? And what is this "sensor-safe RTV?" Sometime during the summer it would be a pleasant little project to get it squared away properly.
