I just completed the Colorado Classic 1000, which is an Iron Butt Associate sanctioned ride. It is sponsored by the BMW club of Denver, so naturally the vast majority of the bikes were BMWs. It is open to all bikes, mine was the only Buell. ( http://www.coloradobeemers.org/content/view/41/44/ for those who want to know more.) I wanted go on recorded to say how excellent the Uly was for this event. The course was mainly on two lane mountain roads with lots of twisties, so the Uly was right at home. We crossed the continental divide 9 times with mountain passes totaling over 125,000 vertical feet in elevation. Needless to say, the Uly was in her element. Yes, I could have used more fuel capacity, but it worked out fine, as I did average over 53 mpg for the 1,053 miles in 21 hours. Things that were the most impressive about the Uly (2008) on this ride: * Handling - incredible!! * Power/torque * Heated grips * Good fuel economy * Comfortable ergonomics (upright riding position) I added a couple of things that made the Uly work even better: * Air Hawk seat pad - wow did that work well. No sore butt whatsoever. * Vista throttle lock * Cramp Buster (throttle assist) * California Scientific windscreen * Auxiliary HID lighting (could have use even more) * Good cold weather gear (rain and 38 degrees at some points) The only thing that I wish I had was the Palmer Cruiser Pegs, they were ordered but didn't arrive in time. The other reason for this post is encourage other Uly riders to consider the Colorado Classic, if you want to do an Iron Butt ride. What a great experience. Unbelievable scenery, challenging roads, and a place for the Uly to really shine. I believe the registrations start in January and is open to the first 60 bikes. My only concern was my oil consumption. On a fresh oil change (2.5 quarts) it took 12 oz of oil to bring it back up the two xx's above the add line at the end of the 1,000. Next time I will need to make sure to find a level spot to check the oil during the ride. |

Sounds like a cool event. BTW- I think you have established a new record for 08 Uly gas mileage. Seems like most 08 owners have trouble hitting 45 MPG. |

48 mpg was my lowest and twice I hit 59 mpg. So I was real pleased to see this type of mileage. I did have a ECM update flash earlier in the year, which seems to have made a difference. |

Hey Court I just got back from Road America last week and ran from there to Newark N.J. over the UP and through Michigan in less than 24 hours. I went on the IBA website to see what it took to be a member and I made it but didn't have a start witness. Next time I'll be prepaired and earn me a plate frame. My Uly ran great and never missed a beat. Cool beans. |

Yeah but I want a big light I can shine in the sky so you can see it no matter where you are. Did you notice it took me 14 minutes to post that pic ? |

Very cool . . . the Ulysses just MAKES you want to do that. I was telling Erik while we were at Homecoming . . . a funny tale. A couple weeks ago . . . I just off on a Sunday to do a 6 hour circuit, stop by Don's (Someday) and am jetting toward home. Just as I am about to cross the Goethals the XM radio comes on with a 1 hour live Derek Trucks special . . . I headed 30 minutes outbound on the 090 radial, did a 180o and returned on the 270. We're sick. Michigan had to be a hoot at night. Last time I took the Fast Ferry we hit Muskegon in the dark and I recall some of the roads being VERY dark. Share your route with us if you get a chance. |

I get an email of just about every new post on Badweb, unfortunately they are up to 5 minutes lagged, and sometimes I get a little backed up at work and won't notice it within a few minutes of getting it. But when you do something like post the same message in 5 different sections of Badweb, like you did when the VDSTS wasn't working, I tend to notice Oh, and a PM works too |

Sounds like the Utah1088 (utah1088.com) 24 hour endurance ride. Great fun. Have done 2 on a Vstrom. Haven't had a chance on the Uly but I think it'll be much better than the Strom for such an event. |

You're missing the point Froggy. What I really want is a gigantic spotlight that I can shine into the night sky and see your likeness on a cloud. |

On the topic of CO M/C endurance events, I just did the first annual Motomarathon last weekend and it was a blast. I was one of the only two Buellers in the event, but like the CO Classic, Buell XBs are made for events like these. The Motomarathon will most likely be repeated next year and I highly recommend it. And maybe if more Buells show up to events like these, the brand will gain a little more respect from the sport and sport touring community. |
