Court, You know I never considered it in that light. It was truly one of the greatest accomplishments of the guy's life. And it was captured on video! G |

Did someone ask? PETA wishes Obama hadn't swatted that fly 4 hours ago WASHINGTON (AP) — The group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals wants the flyswatter in chief to try taking a more humane attitude the next time he's bedeviled by a fly in the White House. PETA is sending President Barack Obama a Katcha Bug Humane Bug Catcher, a device that allows users to trap a house fly and then release it outside. "We support compassion even for the most curious, smallest and least sympathetic animals," PETA spokesman Bruce Friedrich said Wednesday. "We believe that people, where they can be compassionate, should be, for all animals." During an interview for CNBC at the White House on Tuesday, a fly intruded on Obama's conversation with correspondent John Harwood. "Get out of here," the president told the pesky insect. When it didn't, he waited for the fly to settle, put his hand up and then smacked it dead. "Now, where were we?" Obama asked Harwood. Then he added: "That was pretty impressive, wasn't it? I got the sucker." Friedrich said that PETA was pleased with Obama's voting record in the Senate on behalf of animal rights and noted that he has been outspoken against animal abuses. Still, "swatting a fly on TV indicates he's not perfect," Friedrich said, "and we're happy to say that we wish he hadn't." Deputy press secretary Josh Earnest said the White House has no comment on the matter. Copyright © 2009 The Associated Press. All rights reserved. |

Xbduck- please tell me YOU"RE KIDDING. PETA, not PETI?!?! Sheesh. Anyone here besides me got one of them electric flyswatters? About the size of a badminton racket, has a metal grid in the head, takes 2 "D" cell batteries. MIGHTY satisfying to cook 'em with that thing, but it WILL produce a stench briefly. Gave one of these to a buddy who lived at the time in a wood A-frame house on the lake- he was bedeviled by carpenter bees. Bastards would attack him- until he got the electric swatter. Bee badminton, anyone? Harbor Freight has them I think... Bonus: When having a party, be sure to leave one of these laying around. Booze + curious drunk buddy= ZAP!! (And the thing DOES hurt like the dickens...) Guaranteed yukyuks all around... |

I love animals, and I consider myself pretty liberal... but PETA is out of their ****ing MIND!! Always knew it, and this proves it. A "catch and release trap???" For FLIES??? Those people NEED to be locked up in a room full of mosquitos. Let's see how "Live and let live" they are then!!! Sheesh. Now I've heard EVERYTHING!! |

Jaimec- you should've watched Jimmy Fallon last night. Did a great piece on that... You can probably get the vid on the Web- worth watching. I still say Fallon is DA SHIZZ for latenite. Conan did good last night, too- had Shatner, Kobe, and Incubus- plus a 50 ft high Egyptian statue. Both did a skit on Obama and the fly... Anyone here care to "mash up" some vid from the movie "The Fly" with the Obama vid? Might be guuudd... Jeff Goldblum mutated well in that flick. Plus he got a little Geenagina... |

Extra weird. He's on Law and Order with Jeremy D'Onofrio, who played a giant space roach on Men In Black. Fly and Roach together on a show about lawyers. Somehow that makes sense. |
