Well as pretty as the FZ1 in the above picture is, I've narrowed my taste down to a Z1000. That was the bike I was drooling over literally the day before I saw the XB9. So it still has a soft spot in my heart, and can be so sinister looking with a lil modifications. So, the XB12 is getting parted out, unless someone wants it for $3,000. I've got a tranny to replace the one in there now, although at this moment it is still working, new in the box wheel bearings, ah I got a ton of stuff. (Message edited by u4euh on May 26, 2009) |

Life is never simple. I had a great time in Milwaukee, so great in fact, that I have decided that I'm going to homecoming just so we can get back up there. As you might have surmised from the pictures of the broken muffler straps, my bike is not running right now. New straps are on order from Ray Price. It dawned on my yesterday that riding around with broken straps might have causes other things to vibrate loose, so I checked last night, and sure enough, the lower front header stud has broken off. Jims tool is being ordered as we speak. I don't think I've ever gone on a long trip where the bike wasn't having major surgery right before I left. |

I can't believe it took me all 3 days of this weekend to install HID headlights and the upgraded Firebolt headlight assemblies in the XT-BOLT. I guess that's one reason I'm a Mechanical Engineer rather than an Electrical Engineer. Heh, I'm an EE and my HIDs are still in the box. Wiring is a pain. Heh, I'm an EE and my HIDs are still in the box. Wiring is a pain. Classic! There, fixed it for me. I was feeling a little neglected. Because of my plumbing episode, I did not get to other chores. So always looking at the bright side, I have to go back to finish. I hope to go up June 13th, and then again July 4th. Just saying. |

With my NC high school education I was able to finally put my aux brake light on. What do I do with everything left over? Jinance and 1313, see you at Homecoming.

Nice set up. Is the tail light stock? I've never looked at mine since I am not quite ready to have my sit on it with the key in the ignition. One of the first things I did was slide that lower reflector up as high as it would go. I didn't like it hanging down so low. XT? I wonder if anyone makes auxiliary blinkers that screw into through the plate mounting holes (where you have the reflective plate captive screws) and tie in to the main turn signals? An LED type wouldn't load the line much at all. |

Hey jim it took me about an hour and a half to install my hid's. I did high and low. If you need a hand doing the install I'll be glad to help. You should have a little more room under the flyscreen then my lighting. Did you get the slim ballast kit?

Fishgutz, the pics really do not show it well but the tail light is stock. I installed a light bar (extra brake light) below the license plate. Easy to do. BTW: I got it all back together and noticed the reflector got a little sideways. I need to fix that today and will see how far I can push it up. |

Well life got a bit more complex today. My parts came in, at least most of them did. I am missing the 2 rear muffler straps. They are just hose clamps, so I'm trying to find a suitable replacement. I hit one trucking supply company tonight which didn't have them, but had recommendations for who might. As we were looking, we passed a blue X1 on Millbrook, running 2 up. Anyone from here? |

I had some fun in my "other mid-life-crisis" a couple weeks ago. My first rip to URE. Here are some links to the videos. I know it not Buell but it is fun. I'm in the black Jeep with tan top. I'd love to see a Uly tackle URE. Might be fun. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h4qPzkr8Gxw http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7_CjlGATWhs http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IgsH6RYgzqo |

Classic!
There was a time I would jump at the chance to touch anything with wires. It seemed incredible that I could build things that actually worked. |

Jim - Thanks for the Clampco link. Buell has discontinued use of Torca clamps on the 1125R muffler/headers. This is supposedly due to the issue of not being able to reuse the clamps. Evidently Torca clamps stretch and never really work again properly once reused. The clamps they have replaced them with are very heavy steel clamps that have to weight about 2 pounds between the 2 of them. The torca clamps are much prettier and weigh almost nothing. I will not use the new heavy and ugly clamps just because of the additional $10 or so cost to replace the clamps every time the muffler is removed. Since you can't get them from Buell anymore, I have been looking for a source for the torca clamps. |

J, Nice lab set up. What were you creating there? Early 80's? |

I liked building radio transmitters, particularly with vacuum tubes, which were out of date, even at the time. You're good, it was the early 80s, probably 1984 for that picture. |

hair style, shirt, the head phones on the wall, the radio. Actually I noticed the head phones the second time. I would not have included late 70's. Those look like early walkman headphones. That wasn't until early 80's. In 1984 I was out of the air force and not yet an engineering student. |

It seemed incredible that I could build things that actually worked. My thoughts as well when I built my Heathkit HW16 and VFO which still works to this day.
This days I used a little more modern equipment.

Had some fun competing in Rally Tennessee, RallyMoto in Central Tennessee over the weekend. Contrasting surfaces and conditions all weekend. (Good pavement, bad pavement, gravel over pavement, pea gravel, entire roads covered in sealer with rain, pouring rain .... ) I was 2nd in the Heavy bikes on Saturday and Won the Heavy bikes on Sunday. I'm still whooped. Here's a photo from the fast Roan Airplane Stage.

Isn't Torca just a brand name of T-Bolt clamps? |
