I have a 2007 Ulysses and I'm coming up on the factory warranty expiring on April 1st. I was looking at the extended warranty which is $964.00 + tax for two years up to $1664.00 + tax for 5 years. I only used the warranty once so far and that was for a clutch cable. I have a good dealer so I'm not worried about the work getting done correctly but I'm getting laid off in August so if I don't need to spend the money..... Just wondering if its worth it? |

Perhaps if the Uly is your primary xport you should spend the money. If not, no. Broken stuff can wait until the cash is there. JMHO |

Don't bother, the warranty is not handled by Buell, so when something breaks a 3rd party comes in. Usually there is a deductable, and the most common failures on the Uly are "wear items" and not covered. |

"Wear Item" includes tires, brake pads, light bulbs and fluid changes. Leaking gaskets, broken cables, etc. are covered. Another side to the extended is the optional tire and wheel - anything this side of an accident (or a big smoky burnout) that pops a tire with good tread on it, you get a free tire. Anything that bends a wheel (rock, mega-pothole, etc), you get a free wheel assembly with tire. Deductible is $50 per visit - niggly little items that annoy, you can save up and get a bunch done for the single deductible on one visit. It also adds roadside assistance to the nearest dealer. As noted above - if it's your only transport and you want to make sure it'll be ready to go ASAP should something happen...it's money well spent. If it's alternative / toy transportation and you can, should the event arise, wait for funds in order to make a repair...not as necessary. Just an example: our 2005 Cummins Dodge has a ton of good, solid miles on it with no issues. A couple weeks ago, I noticed a rainbow coming out from under it while it was parked in a rainy parking lot and it smelled like diesel. I checked underhood, the injector pump was leaking fuel. Took it in, and because of our extended warranty, the $1800-ish replacement cost me $100 (and included a front axle pinion seal replacement too, because the tech has eagle-eyes, and is a friend of mine and checked the whole truck for stuff under the same deductible). And we've never had problem-one with that truck until now. |

Personally, I have purchased extended warranties in the past on everything from walkie-talkies to automobiles, to projection tvs. I've never cashed in on a single one. |

Save that money and use it if you really have a mechanical problem that you can't handle. Buy the $60 service manual and this will help you save even more money in the long run. Why pay in advance for repairs that probably won't ever happen?? If you think that the bike you are buying is sure to need $1664 worth of work then you'd better not buy the bike. The only money I've spent on my 06' ULY is for gas, tires, and lube. Original warranty covered recalls and a couple of other nit picks. That 1664 would of easily financed both my family's Buell Homecoming trips. Bottom line is that you should not pay for one of those SCAM extended warranties. |

Oh yea I forgot to mention, they screw you over when you cancel. I bought the 5 year warranty with my 06 Uly, crashed 6 months later and go to cancel. I still had a year and a half to go on the factory warranty before even thinking of needing the extended warranty, yet I was only able to get about half back. |

I had extended warranty on my Roadking and in the middle of a cross country a valve failed and dealer ( on a Sunday ) replaced the rear head to get me on the road! No charge, not even the 50 bucks. I'm thinking of spending the 900+ for the 3 additional years on my 08 Uly. Seems the dealers get their money without a hassel and that makes the warranty work for the customer. |

Thanks everybody for the feedback. Yeah, still thinking about it, just trying to cut costs where I can. I have the service manual and it's been one of the easier bikes to work on. It's not my primary transportation. Just looking at the warranty in case something big goes out or piece of mind. |

I do Vehicle Service Contract Claim Adjudication as my job. It's really hard to say if it's worth it or not. You pay your money and take your chances. I bought a low mileage, Focus SVT and in two years I've had the... -Flywheel (and clutch) replaced. -A/C compressor -CD changer -window motor and regulator -plus a few things I can't remember Next week... She's going in for both front struts, a balljoint, tie rod end, both sway bar links, traction control switch, thermostat housing and depending on what the leak down test says, an engine. I paid 1600 and it has EASILY paid for itself. I also have Customers that NEVER use their warrantys If it's an issue, you can often buy a rider Agreement on top of the Vehicle Service Contract that refunds your money if a Claim is never filed. Ask about it. Most importantly, READ! Make sure that it will cover seals and gaskets, fluid leaks, etc. I'd say that if you're not mechanically inclined, go for it. If you are, there's not much you can't do or find out what to do on BadWeb. |

I bought the 7 year extended warranty with my first Buell the Millenium X1. Then it was totaled and I got every cent back. "I know a lousy way to get your money back!" Ever since then I just go with the warranty that comes with the bike and ride it a lot. Boy the price sure went up! K |

How can that even be possible. It's their first loss in 59 years and they want help. What a bunch of friggin whimps. Toyota is definately off my long list let alone the short list. The gull of these companies is only matched by their sheer stupidity. |

Toyota is almost broke, they have been spending left and right and doing everything they can to become #1 in sales, building factories left and right and cranking out cars as fast as they can. It bit them in the ass when the economy took a dump. Toyota is renting cargo ships to hold unsold cars. |
