si i found a bad bearing on the left(caliper side) of my 2000 m2 and i replaced the bearing and when i put it back together the caliper bracket is hitting the rotor. this is on the rear. i dont know what the hell is going on. and its making me super frustrated. please help. and maybe send pics of the setup. i put back together in the same order it came apart. its really weird. help// |

did you get the caliper bracket turned around the wrong way? did you remember the wheel spacer? |

i never disassembled the caliper/ bracket. and it only has one spacer on the drive side. the bracket acts as the spacer on the left. right. am i having a brainfart |

roger. the only thing i can think is if al (American Sport Bike) sent me the wrong bearing. and its the wrong width. cause thats the only hypothesis. i can come to. you all forgot about that word. huh. lol |

It isn't making a lot of sense to me. Here's a few photos of my S3 and S1W with the same rear brake.
The space between the bracket and the face of the rotor is dictated by where the face of the inner race of the bearing is relative to the face of the rotor. The bracket geometry dictates that. Where the caliper is falling is somewhat irrelevant, though obviously you wouldn't have gotten in on if the rotor wasn't in the caliper slot. I'm pretty darned certain the 6205 bearing we sent was the right thickness, but if you have a set of calipers, measure the thickness of that inner race. All of the faces (wheel hub, outer race, inner race) should be pretty much coplanar as shown in the wheel picture above. Al |

al the rotor goes into the slot just fine. and when the axle nut is loose the wheel spins free. and then when i tighten the axle it compress the bracket against the rotor. so i dont know....the pics didnt show up. |

here is the bearing on the outer rim. you can see its in farther that the one all posted and this is the bearing number on the side of the box. hope this helps NSK 6205dduc3e ns7s 601 |

I would check the bearings side by side (micrometer), I swear someone said if it is to tight it smash the spacer, So if the bearing was bad could it have damaged the spacer to? Not sure if any of this helped. |

no i checked the spacer me and al went over all this on the phone. and i left the other bearing at work. so i cant do that until tuesday. aarrgghh. i should have brought it home...... |

it is possible that the pad(s) are not seated properly up front, so they will slide down on the rotor instead of being retained where that little spring clip seats (or doesn't). .....and...you aren't LIKE WTF.....you ARE WTF |

That does look to be incorrect depth of the bearing, Maybe correct part# with incorrect part in correct packaging, It can happen |

It's hard to tell from the picture. But it looks like I'm seeing 6205 on the seal on the bearing, which should be the right one. Here is my hypothesis: 1) This is a bearing that is being put in to replace a bearing that failed VERY prematurely. Rapidly failing bearings are very often indicative of inner and outer races that aren't aligned when the bearing axle is torqued down. It may not be coincidence that this one isn't lining up right. 2) The inner race LOOKS to be in too far. This can happen if: a) The entire bearing is too thin b) The entire bearing is pressed in too far--impossible, because the wheel has a shoulder that the outer race is pressed all the way into. c) The inner race ONLY is too far in. I'm betting on c. C) can only happen if the spacer is too short, OR, if the bearings on OTHER side are not seated 100%, OR if the wheel is improperly machined and the length of the spacer doesn't EXACTLY match the length between the floors of the wheel on both sides. This can happen if there is a burr raised on the hub when the bearing is pressed in, and the burr is preventing the outer race on the far side from seating al the way into the wheel. It's gotta be that, or a) the bearing is too thin. But it came out of my 6205 bearing box and looks to be a 6205. Maybe there is a special thin version of a 6205 and that one is one of those, but I never bought anything but the same part number, so it'd be either a mis-packaged one or labeled right but not the correct one. Unfortunately, that was the last NSK one we had, the others here are a different brand and have different package labels/manufacturer part numbers. Measure the thickness of the inner race if you have some calipers. It'll be tough to get a precise measurement in the wheel, but it should be about .587" thick. Al |

The drive side has two x 6205 bearings the caliper side has 1x 62205 , this is a wider bearing , I had the same problem. PM wheels the 3 bearings are the same size. |

in the pic i posted the assembly is not tight. so i think that the bearing is the wrong one/ mis-package. because the more i look at it if the bearing was even with the lip of the wheel it would miss the rotor. so i try to find a local shop who has a bearing. 62205 you said. so thanks all. more in the am |

DOH!!!!!! We have a winner...that's what it is...I'm an idiot.. I knew there was one 62205 and two 6205 bearings in the wheel, but it's been a few years since I put one together, and for some reason in my head, put the 62205 and one 6205 in the pulley side, and the 6205 in the brake side. Not sure why I was thinking that, must be losing my mind.... I'll get the right one out to you ASAP.. Al |
