Is anyone else here bored with GP racing? Traction control, fuel quantity limits (wtf?), 800cc, perfect race tires, GPS active suspension, pre-pubescent sized riders with no muscle that just run it through the turns without ever losing any traction. Who thinks this is a way to make racing exciting? Here is a formula: Too much power for the tires to handle and no traction control puts everyone on a more level playing field. Riders need enough balls and muscle to handle a sliding and bucking bike. The best $500,000 electronic shock will not determine the winner of the race, the riders skill, balls, and adaptability will. If someone can get me the correct contact info for the MotoGP bosses, I'll send them a copy of Rainey Days so they can see what exciting racing looked like. |

500's were beasts in comparison. Injury was huge in those day's. Many reason's why they are the way they are today. |

The MotoGP era in GP racing has done a lot for proving new technologies that are being adapted to street bikes and equipment available to club level racers. Today's $500,000 shock could lead to tomorrow's $1,400 shock. |

I think it's pretty damn exciting still. Those guys ride far better than I could ever hope to ride. They still have to be well aware of the limits of traction - it's not like they're riding slot cars or anything. There's no sense in going back to the old days when wrecks were common and riders got injured a lot more, unless you're one of those people that watches races to see the crashes. I watch the MotoGP highlights every week during the season, because usually I don't have time to sit and watch the whole race. And I loved Faster and The Doctor, the Tornado, and the Kentucky Kid. Maybe that's it - because I'm not sitting through the whole thing, I don't see the boring parts. But I'm sure there were boring parts ten or fifteen years ago. |

I get bored with Moto-ST or any kind of endurance racing. My attention span is far too short. I can't IMAGINE sitting through an entire race, much rather just watch highlights afterward. MotoGP fits right in because it runs only about 45 minutes a race, and Rossi is ALWAYS entertaining. Best of all I think will be World Superbike with the LOADED grid. They have to do SOMETHING to bring down the costs of MotoGP or they're going to price themselves right out of existence. |

WSBK. nuff said. And yes I agree Moto GP is boring. Bring back the 500s (I know that will never happen) when it took huge skill and BIG BALLS to go fast. Then you would have something again. MOtoGp should be thanking their lucky stars that Rossi signed on for a couple more years. I mean, if he wasn't around there would be NO reason to watch it. |

I think todays riders have twice the skill's the early riders have and past racer's like Rainey have said that and I heard him say that at the 2007 US moto GP. He was inducted in the hall of fame that year. Also it didn't take big ball's.... today's rider's would do the same. Then they had no technology. |

I'm not sure if skills is the correct term. Certainly today's rider have a better knowledge base on what it takes to ride fast. Everyone involved has spent probably MILLIONS of dollars total into studying the dynamics of motorcycle handling and what it takes to go fast. The bike is a very small part of the equation. The fastest bike on the grid (in terms of top speed) is the Ducati, and yet only ONE person so far has been able to do something with all of that horsepower. Today's riders are enjoying the fruits of their predecessors' labors. And MotoGP technology DOES trickle down. Traction control for the street is now appearing, Honda just introduced sportbike ABS, and Yamaha just introduced the cross-plane engine in the R1. |

Much prefer WSBK these days, or 250GP. Oh wait, I forgot, they are going to eliminate 250GP. Idiots. |

Also it didn't take big ball's.... today's rider's would do the same. Then they had no technology. Yes, no technology IS the reason it took big balls to ride. No one WANTED to ride the 500s, they had to to make a living. Do some research. Sorry, but the new crop of riders are for the most part primadonnas. Stoner, Lorenzo, Pedrosa on a fire breathing 500cc. Yeah right. |

Yeah right... do your research the riders you have just listed rode 250's. It takes talent... big talent to ride those bikes even in which by riding those 250's makes the transition to 500's or GP bikes of present easier.Hayden dirt track history like most of the US riders that went to GP. They have a riding style that differs from other countries. Really,no premadonna's. They ride a bike for a team in which they help develop a bike. |

They are talented yes, but would they have the heart to tame a 500cc? All speculation now, but I would say NO. Stoner--whiner Lorenzo--arrogant (without anything to be arrogant about) Pedrosa--personality-less munchkin |

I've always preferred the superbikes. It's what we race in Aus mainly anyway. I at least know what their (SBK) R1 started as - and have ridden a Gixxer. Also see benefit in MotoGP flow on technology. And I admire all of their courage. Hosing down rain and they go out there and ride those things full tilt. I'd want a million to do it too. |

I am old skool. Technology is great, but I want to ride AND control the bike with MY input, not a computer that takes my input and correct's it... But what do I know... Your opinion may vary! |

Yeah right... do your research the riders you have just listed rode 250's. That's the whole problem. 250 riders riding premier bikes like 250's. Boring as hell. Being a 250 champ was not a consistent ticket to winning on a 500. You also had to be able to push the front and slide the rear, because you had no traction control and more power than tires. When kids from 250s can just jump on the 800s and go fast riding in a similar style, we have a big problem with the "premier" class. By the way, Rainey also said MotoGP is boring and his reasoning was that a fan can look at the race and say "I could do that". Nobody in their right mind felt that way about the 500s. Rainey is currently on record as being very down on the 800 MotoGP series and competition. |

Brumbear: 1) That clip is about 1000cc bikes, without the idiotic fuel limits, and traction control that was nowhere nearly as effective as it is the last couple of years. 2) You need a season of highlights of MotoGP to get what one race provided in the 500 days. |

Do you realize that the riders pin the throttle mid-turn and let the computer do the work based on traction control and GPS? That is not what interests me, not at all. |

Stoner--whiner Lorenzo--arrogant (without anything to be arrogant about) Pedrosa--personality-less munchkin Your describing personality not there talent. The new GP bikes are monsters. Rossi has said that. Just a different kind. They are not that easy to ride. Spies,Rodger Hayden,Duhamel which by the way did a short stint on 500's. They are so advanced that you need to no even more... not just go WFO and the bike does it all. They do more testing then any form of motorcycle racing just to get the times down. I find it very technical. |

Wow Rainey said that??? Could you find that for me. Funny I was standing within 7 feet of him during interview at Laguna 2 years ago outside the paddock garage's and thats not what he said at all infront of a huge amount of people. He has the most respect to what I gathered. |

The new GP bikes are monsters. Rossi has said that Uhhh, Uhhhh Dude, you can't hold a monster WFO mid corner at a 40 degree lean angle. Rossi's hero is Schwantz. Why do you think that is? Shit, Rossi quit trying for wins in some races two years ago because he said he couldn't win with his tire brand! If that ain't traction control killing racing, I don't know what is. People could win on inferior tires before traction control, not anymore. Pathetic. |

Dude, you can't hold a monster WFO mid corner at a 40 degree lean angle. And you can't on these bikes either when the tires go away. Alot of times half way through the race. Sorry my man but if you don't like it don't watch. |

Sorry my man but if you don't like it don't watch. Problem is, I'm not, and quite a few fans aren't either. The series is struggling mightily and viewership is in severe decline. (Even Rainey thinks it's boring) I'm glad you love it so much, but many of us that have been avid fans for 25 years or more are not tuning in anymore. It has been hurting the series, but now the factories are starting to pull out because the viewership is not worth the cost anymore, not in this environment. |
