Or trying to anyway.

I have an install and training to do just outside of Milwaukee and thought I would fly in a little early on Wednesday and leave a little late on Friday to have some fun while I am there.

My flight lands at about 11:30 on Wednesday the 21st so I thought I would go to the museum on my way to the hotel.

On Friday my flight is 3:30 so I thought I'd pay a visit to the factory in the morning.

Are there any arrangements needed to visit the factory?

I could switch the two if there is a reason too (the factory is closed on Friday, somebody wants to go with me but the other day works better, etc.).

My boss and a sales rep will be in the area on separate business so I will probably be eating with them, but I may still find time to meet somebody for a beer if anyone is interested.

I think all you have to do is call ahead to the factory. It is on their website.

Go on-line and get your tickets for the Museum. The problem is, if you don't have a ton of time, the Factory and downtown aren't really close.

Where you doing the install?? I'm 20 minutes from downtown.

The H-D engine plant is cool.
I got my first glimpse of the 2008 XB engines there, july 2007.

Hotel is new. It was not quite ready for H-D's 105th birthday party last summer (they missed a major opportunity). Cool looking place. Museum is great place to spend a few hours, even just to watch some of the loop video's they have running in there is worth the trip.

Iron Horse is open a bit pricey though. Hoping to take in the museum and factory soon also when we get some time. Have fun and hopefully the warm, 20F, weather stays around for you.

"The H-D engine plant is cool."

The Buell/Sportster motor plant is about 10-15 minutes from where you're staying. It is pretty cool. The Harley Product Development Center is behind it, but there's no tours in there.

Scott, I did not enjoy the HD/Buell engine plant but I think I went on an off day. I did not see any engines being built but there is a lot of good information and the girl that did the tour was a cutie..

As far as Buell, I recommend calling Buell ahead of time so they know you are coming. I love watching assembly line type work. The Buell plant is cool because it is not as automated as GM or other plants. What I thought was really cool was the tools being used and how they use them. The whole process is very interesting as well as how it is tracked. Neat stuff to me probably because I never did that kind of work.

I would like to see the HD museum, mostly just for curiosity. I bet the historical displays are really great.

There's a fair amount of Buell stuff in the Museum. There's a display in the R&D area that has the history and development of the V Rod, Rocker and XBr. All three bikes are side by side with renderings and drawings

I think the buell clothing store at the factory had a sign on it saying its only open one day a week so you should call up there and find out. Or let me know and i can dig into it for you since i am real close too. We also went up to New Berlin to the HD dealer saturday which is real close to where you are going to be and they have alot of buell clothes in there compared to most dealers in this area.

The factory tour and meeting the enthusiastic folks that work there is not to be missed.

It's great seeing how much passion goes into designing and building our bikes.

The Brew City Buellers (the locals) are also some pretty great folks to hang out with.

Scott:

You are good to go for Friday. The line will be running at full tilt and Mike indicates he could use a hand that morning.

Call Donna at 262-642-2020 and let her know what time you expect to arrive. You can tell her I told you to call but then you risk getting put to work!

You are going to have a GREAT time.

Enjoy and we'll look forward to your report.

Ha Ha I beat ya to it, I gave Erik one at Homecoming last year but I'm sure he wouldn't mind another. They are the hottest ticket on Badweb you know.

Have fun man, the factory is a very cool place to visit with some of the coolest folks working there. I had great conversations with a few of the employees last summer.

The best one was with Henry, the look he gave me when I told him I was trying to put an XBRR dampener on my XBR. Classic line: I bet your having spacing issues with the wiring harness.

That was an understatement if I have ever heard one.

Hey . . . who has a nicer voice on the phone than Donna?

Yes she has a lovely voice but there was a pregnant pause when I told her "Court told me to call"....

Doughnut, unfortunately I am on the north side of town at the Hilton Milwaukee River, so it is a bit far from you but I will send you my cell
#.

A beer doesn't seem to be working out (I'm still game if someone is or can be in the immediate area), maybe breakfast on Friday?

I should be done with my install 2-3:00 tommorow and am going to stop by Hal's if anyone wants too meet me there.

They have not allowed cameras on the big tours and I suspect they may be discouraged now. It has nothing to do with "secrets" (all well tucked away in the building directly to the East and an undisclosed location in the middle of town) as much as it does silly stuff and prudence.

Ask politely, who knows.

I'll let Donna know you'll be with Scott. She's expecting you at 10:00AM.

NOTE: Kiss up to Donna. She's one of the neatest things to ever happen at Buell.

Cute little side story that you might enjoy: Folks have been sending books for Dave, Erik and I to sign. Kind folks that they are, some stick a $20 bill in the book to help out with us sending them all over. I got the first one, checked, and I already had $20 so I left it in the book and sent it to Dave . . . apparently Dave already had $20 too so he fires it off to Erik . . . who apparently also had $20 . . . just as I think someone's getting a book AND a $20 spot back . . . . woosh . . in sweeps perhaps the smartest person at Buell, Mrs. Tordik, snags the $20, gives it to Donna and this has now become the official source of funding to keep the candy jar on Donn'a desk filled.

Make no mistake about it . . . . Erik works there . . . Mrs. Tordik is IN CHARGE!

And now you know . . . . . . . the REST of the story
