My brother picked up a '87 Ski Doo 377 Safari for short $$. It has 130 psi of compression, starts and idles well when cold, but once it warms up it loses power across the whole range (bogs). We have cleaned the carb out (Mikuni VM). The rubber manifold is cracking on the outside, but we do not see any cracks on the inside and it does not change rpm when sprayed with carb cleaner. Are there carb or oil injection or other settings we should be looking at or? Thanks, Scott |

It sounds like the main jet is clogged. It has some tiny holes that will cause that. Make sure you have fresh gas too. |

Sometimes the fuel pump diaphragm will crack and it will draw fuel thru the pump into the crankcase via the pulse port line. Runs rich and no power. To check, put a vacuum pump on the fuel pump pulse line and apply vacuum. It should hold steady. If it drops, there is your problem. |

if thats the 377 rotax, check the seal around the 2 crankcase pieces. as the motor warms, and expands, odd things can happen there on older motors. ( ran a bunch of these in go- carts for a while) also, the CDI ( ignition) boxes, and Hall effect pickups are somewhat suspect on certain series of the rotax 377's |

Thanks everyone. We found a leak in the fuel pump diaphragm (thanks Zip). The new part is not in yet, but we think that should do it. |

Scott, does your parts guy do work on more than just old Ski Doo's? I'm looking for some parts for an '81 Arctic Cat I use for ice fishing. |

My brother was going to take a ride to some shop to see if they have it/could get it. I'll let you know. Also, Parts Unlimited seems to have a lot of the common parts for these old sleds (just like they did for my old GPz 550). We did not have a good experience at the Ski Doo dealer. When we asked if they would have a belt for a '87 Safari, the guy (owner/salesman/parts guy I think?) asked "why would I have one of those?". My brother wanted to say "because you are a Ski Doo dealer" but bit his tongue. Guess where I would not go or send anybody in need of anything Ski Doo? I just don't get some people..... |
