So I dropped all my plastics off at a paint shop last week. Well I got a call today and they got the paint in that I requested. (Buell Molten Orange) I asked the guy last week to show me a couple ideas of things I could do to be different than the 100% stock color without going too extreme. Today I stopped by and he had three test panels painted to show me - one with only the molten orange, one with gold flake added, and one with purple pearl. OH MY.. I chose the purple pearl INSTANTLY. This is going to look amazing with my X1's nuclear blue frame. Outside of direct sunlight the color looks completely stock, but let that sucker catch a sunbeam just right and it really comes alive. I'll be posting pictures when I pick the pieces up. Painting will be done tomorrow and I should pick them up beginning of next week. |

I used silver and added a little red metal flake. Looks normal until the light hits it, then BOOM fire and ice. |

Can't wait to see it. I've got a spare tank for my S1W (the original 'bubble special' tank) that I want painted stock-ish. It's ice white pearl, I'm thinking an extra coat of the blue pearl, or just mask off some hotrod style flames and shoot them with a coat of the pearl. Invisible, until the light hits (I hope). Looking forward to some pics of a similar idea to show my paint guy |

From the test panel I saw, the molten orange will be dulled down a little by the pearl. Not noticeable unless it's next to another stock molten orange buell though. Will be well worth it for the pearl effect imo. The gold flake looked great too, just didn'nt go with my frame, and made things a little too bright and flashy for my taste. |

The purple pearl will look great. Kind of goes with the character of an X1. If you don't mind me asking, could you tell us how much are they charging for the paint job? I am considering a repaint and would like to get an idea. Thanks. |

Will cost me $600 with the pearl. $500 w/o pearl. I don't think the price is bad considering I brought all the pieces to the shop in different conditions. Some with stock paint, some bare, some with primer, etc. Anyone have ideas about what to do with the indentions in the front fender where the reflectors used to be? Gotta find something different.. |

Appreciate sharing the price information. That does seem like a good price. A friend of mine had his Sportster painted (front and rear fenders and the tank) and he paid close to $900. He did have some air brushing done on the tank though. Some vines running down on the side....Came out great. |

I'm interested in adding some white pinstripes lengthwise across the front fender, flyscreen, and tank cover. But I'll wait to see what it looks like with parts on the bike and decals added |

maybe some adhesive backed retro reflective material cut out in the shape of the recesses on the front fender? That stuff is pretty killer in silver and not as offensive as a reflector |

No pics yet. Painting should be complete as of yesterday and today being turkey day I hope to pick everything up tomorrow or early next week. Billet - thanks for the tape idea. I'll look around and see what's available.. |

I got impatient and stopped by the shop today. Pieces look amazing! But didn't get pics. The chin fairing got dirt in it so its getting redone. |

I picked the parts up today, but it was dark by the time I got home so you can't see the pearl in any of these. Also got a few shots of the LEDs I installed last week from Boogey Lights. The camera picked up hot spots from the LEDs, but in person this kit does a GREAT job of glowing over a wide area.

Thanks! I tried getting a custom piece fabricated for the right side that would mirror the left scoop and allow the forcewinder to fit through. That turned out horrible. Third Eyes are awesome! Every bit as functional as CRGs and a lot easier on the wallet.} |

Don't know what brand the paint is. It was done at 2 Brothers Custom Works in Oklahoma City. They called Buell to get the exact code for Molten Orange. DBC-91853 |

Nice now you just need to get rid of the stock turn signals! |

I kinda like the stock signals after shortening the stalks and getting smoked lenses from a blast. |

Where did the left side air scoop come from? |

The scoop on the left is stock. The tank dressing on the right side is a fiberglass piece from American Sport Bike. |

Looks great. Are you putting white BUELL letters on the tank? I would.. but without the part that says American Motorcycles. |

Yeah I plan on putting decals back on. I hadn't thought about only using Buell on the tank. But I think it looks great by itself on the flyscreen so why not.. |
