Local charity event yesterday that some of the SCU's friends participated in. . . photos taken by a friend in the Porsche Club. Thought even the 2-wheel crowd would enjoy. Yep . . those are 20" wheels. I can't imagine, just knowing what NYC does to 19" wheels how fast I'd go through those! And dig this . . as some of you know I'm a Porsche Cayman nut and although I'm not a convertible guy I thought this was pretty cool . . you don't see may Cayman convertibles! |

Some *very* nice exotica there. How often do you see an F40!? My fav is that 356 though, it's beautiful. (Ok, closely followed by the GT3RS ) Cayman convertible... you're messing with my mind |

I know what you mean about the 356 . . . I took this shot of one (yeah, it's genuine) sitting in a field in CT while I was out Uly-cruising one day . . .

Man, you see some picturesque things in your travels I'm a bit of a Porsche fan, always have been. I finally got to drive a 911 a few weeks ago, a classic mid-eighties model. The drive was very brief but lived up to all my expectations, it was lovely to drive. One day I'll drive a 356 |

No number plates up front?!?!?! |

No number plates up front?!?!?! They are required. Most guys just toss the plate on the dash . . . which "kinda technically" works. Theory is they'd much rather get the occasional ticket than drill the holes. There is, on our Porsche forum, and ongoing (I got my first no front plate ticket" thread . . . For the Cayman their is a company that makes a tag bracket that attaches via the tow hook holes. |

quote:A jurisdiction in one state could not reasonably ticket a vehicle from another state, which does not require a front plate, for the absence of said front plate. Just as your state driver's license allows you to drive through another state (while not a resident of that state), your state's one-plate standard must be recognized by another state. It's a matter of interstate comity. However, one state's authorities can ticket you for a violation of another state's regulations. For example, if a car from New Jersey is parked in New York with an expired N.J. registration, it can be ticketed by N.Y. authorities for having an expired registration. The fact that a car is registered out-of-state does not give it immunity from violations of its home-state laws
quote:I've parked at the Chicago airports extensively for over 5 years in my Audi with no front plates and no tickets at all. I parked my Cayman this week for the first time at Midway and got a no front plate ticket. I can only assume the Cayman drew more attention, or maybe they are starting to crack down more. Sadly it's not a fix it ticket, so it looks like I'll have to invest in one of the tow hook license plate frames to use when I park at the airports. What a bummer, but there's no way I'm installing a front plate on a Porsche!
quote:I would go the route of throwing my front plate in my front windshield, but that is actually a stiffer fine because it is improper display of a plate. Yet another law made just to bilk us out of money.while operated or parked out-of-state.

very nice! I too was gonna comment on that Lambo-flanked 356. Porsche has been a coveted marquee for me since i was a kid and rode in my dad's friends 911. Love the classic speedsters too. The Caymen is a lovely car |

Front plates should be banned in NY, they ruin the look of some cars. How is this for the classic "Oh ****, we forgot to design a plate holder"?

Man, I mean this just as a joke, but what's the difference b/w a porsche and a porcupine? With a porcupine, the pricks are on the outside... hehe. Those were some nice cars, I've only seen two exotics in these parts this winter (plus a desmo, that definitely counts) a 599GTB and a F430..... I thought the 430 was a liter bike storming down the road, low and behold there it went.Must've been a Patriots player (I was across the street from Gillette Stadium, their home turf).... I never knew they sounded so good in person! Ever seen a 917? Know where one could go to see one? (Message edited by malott442 on November 21, 2008) |

A Porsche with four doors is just not right. Don't get me started on the Cayenne either, no matter how much sense it makes as a business move, it's just wrong. "I thought the 430 was a liter bike storming down the road" I was lucky enough to work on a motor show stand where we had an Enzo, an F50, an F40 and a 288GTO on display. The engine sound of the Enzo and the F50 really surprised me, very high pitched and motorcycle like. |

Nay discussions on the Porsche forum about how the Panamera and Cayenne water down the Porsche name. Not unlike motorcycles, opinions vary. The Cayenne, which holds zero appeal to me, I confess does amaze me. Folks line up to pay $100,000 for a frickin' TRUCK. Porsche is also getting a little scrutiny within owners groups at the moment for playing the V1 and V2 game with the new models. Folks are planning to demand discounts for the V1 in view of the fact that it will effectively be "last years model" in a mere 3 months. Vehicles. . . the demise of is all!

I'm sure the Cayenne is a great car... truck... whatever it is , and the Panamera will no doubt be an amazing sedan... But I will always remember how when I was young I lusted after a 911 made by a company that only put their name on sports and racing cars. If I understand what you mean, doesn't every car/motorcycle company get caught with complaints for making continual improvements at some stage? |

"Pricks are on the inside" I saw a Ferrari parked at a gas station out on the highway up by me, I walked up to the guy and with my best hickabilly drawl, "That must be one of them new Pontiac Ferraros...boy that sure is nice, specially for and american car" The guy couldn't tell I was joking, what a prick. |

If you believe all folks who drive Ferrari's and Porsche's are pricks . . you'll be an easy sell for all motorcyclists are outlaws. I learned years ago to sort out the fine folks and pricks based on thing other than what they drive and ride. I've yet to have another Porsche owner or Harley-Davidson owner tell me that folks who drive/ride either are pricks. The entire dynamic often smacks of envy. But, having heard all the hillbilly jokes, I'm sure you know that. I'm from Kansas and constantly get teased about my "accent" |

The planet is seething with stupid people - how was he supposed to catch on? I was recently asked if my 99 S3 was a Blast. Nothing against the Blast, I would love to get one to tool around on and teach my kids how to ride, but I can only hope it was a joke I didn't get.... Court - are you pulling our collective online legs talking about a Caymen Convertible? I thought that would make it a Boxster? (Message edited by scott_in_nh on November 24, 2008) |

Nice 911 Capital_g, or is it a 930??? Yep, that's a GTR... Have you heard about the argument between Nissan and Porsche over Nurburgring lap times for GTR and GT2? All a bit silly, they're both extremely nice, and fast, cars Got a surprise seeing this in the traffic today... Co-pilot managed to grab a few photos...

Court, My brother just yesterday put a offer on a 2001 911 Turbo AWD. Its got 13,000 miles on it. Yellow with smoked Black wheels. I guess the wheels are from a GTR. Original owner. My Brother is excited but he gave the owner one offer and one only. From the sound of things the guy is a bit upside down with his finances right now and has to get rid of few things. |
