I had my first BM this morning since last Tuesday. Can't even begin to describe how much better I felt afterwards; simply amazing, and quite a stunning accomplishment and victory. Hope you don't mind me sharing in my joy. Ferris Do you have a DVD player & TV? If so I will see if I can find a copy of "The Fisher King" with Robin Williams, your "joy" comment brought back a memorable segment of one of his early ( in story monologs ) about BMs' it realy is "mystical" at times More prayers and good wishes on the way heal well thanks for making that supreme effort to keep us posted. } |

Jerry - congrats. I was thrilled beyond words when they took out my cath For the pain meds...time will heal, no pun. I take *maybe* 400mg of ibuprofen a day, and that only if they *really* beat the crap out of me in PT. Most days, I'm stiff and sore, but med-free. Keep pluggin' along, it'll be over before you know it. Kim has been in touch with Denise (either helping her out, or getting the 2 of us in trouble), so hopefully we can all share some "wisdom", and warm fuzzies, and stuff |

Wow, Jerry, sorry to hear of your misfortune. I hope you make medical history with the speed of your healing. But don't push it! You know the old saying...That which doesn't kill us...makes us wish we were dead. Ha! I took care of my Dad during his R.C. surgery and recovery. It was damn hard on him (and me). I know you guys will get through this like champs. Denisea, take care of yourself as well, it will be a long haul. Sounds like Jerry is a superman of sorts so I hope you are spot on about his recovery being quicker than expected. Take good care, both of you... Pam and Wes |

I'm still praying! You have chains for the truck? Are you going to be able to get out of the driveway for groceries without shoveling when the snow starts? Or better yet, some 14 year old neighbor looking to make $10? |

10 Bucks? Did you forget the grade and width of Ferris's drive? $20.00 minimum. $15.00 if he lets me put a snow plow on the RK. Kim and I are keeping the FB&D in our thoughts and prayers too. JB2 |

thx again, everyone, it means the world. we're "stabilizing," building new routines, and things are settling down. the pain is considerably less already, and oftentimes i'm able to go a little beyond the recommended med dosing and still be ok. i think (hope) the pain issue will be a non-issue soon enough. we have in-home nursing and PT for a spell. all my vitals and other parameters are good, and the incision is very pink and healthy looking. PT is a bit of a bitch, about 20 minutes of mild torture per session, and sure pegs my anxiety meter. was actually able to putter in the shop this afternoon, nothing major, mostly just putting away tools and the like, and it sure felt good to be human. have my first followup visit with the ortho doc tomorrow afternoon, just a status check of sorts. i think he's gonna be happy with how his chainsaw art is healing up. Denise is still ragged, beat up from stress and poor sleeping regimen of late. pls keep her in your thoughts! also, PLEASE say a word or two to Rubberdown, aka Mike Warren, a fine human being who truly is in a world of hurt right now. you'll find his thread elsewhere on the QB. even if you don't know him, well, he's a BadWeB'er, and a friend of mine, so that oughta be enough to open your heart to him and his wife Trish. his injuries and recovery are gonna make what i'm going thru seem like child's play. pls ping him and let him know you care. yep, chains for the truck, winter wood supply already laid in, VCR at the ready, not nearly enough moto-mags, and scheming on ways to mod and rod the Road King one-handed this winter (don't tell Denise!!!) thx folks, you're the best. pls don't forget about our friend Rubberdown. the body is broken but the spirit remains untouched! I am how ever some what puzzled why black powder & a flair gun are required for snow removal unless the fuel oil also gets some fertilizer too. |

Have a half a mason jar of that "spring water" and the reason for the flare gun will be as plain as the noses on your face. Drink the whole jar, and it might even start to sound like a good idea.

Jerry, What kind of tunes you listen to? You a Blues fan? hi Brad. i'm not very sophisticated musically, and tend to fall back on classic rock when lookin' for a disc to spin. (speakin' of which, heard any of the new Eagles release? some nice stuff, with their signature sound.) who is blues to you? i'm game for any "good" music, recognizing that everyone's opinion of what constitutes good will differ from the mild to the extreme. SRV's blues, and Clapton's blues, are good in my book. who ya got in mind? :-) FB |

You're fortunate it's only RC (and maybe AC) repair. many of us have gone through this procedure many times. Could have been far worse. After 9 knee surgeries and 4 RC repairs, myself,I advise you get past the pain with PT, and simply work through it. There are FAR worse pains than post-RC repair PT. Consider yourself fortunate, as this is a simple, routine and very common orthopaedic procedure that many go through. The loss of part of your Acromium can create minor laxities down the line, but other than this, expect nice, simnple recovery.. You don't have cancer or head trauma, and you haven't lost a limb. |

Remember that today is Veterans' Day- Do the right thing by forgotten vets who may never walk or see again, visit your local VA hospital with a stack of magazines, etc., and take some time to BS with some of the people who have sacrificed so much for your freedom. VA hospitals are full of men and women missing arsms, legs, faces, internal organs, etc., who could use a kind word, or someone to BS with. It doesn't take too much effort, and it can mean the world to one of our tens of thousands of truly disabled vets |

BluzM2, Hey I turned Ferris onto Johnny Lang and he liked him. I first turned him onto North Mississippi Allstars and I'm guessin' he didn't find a groove with them. Others I've shared with Ferris that he liked were Deborah Coleman and Joe Bonamassa. I'd try anything you liked cause you just never know. Ferris, Get well brother! new Eagles release Are you talking about "Long Road Out Eden" or is there an newer CD than that? I LOVE the Eagles. I think we have enough Eagles CDs that we probably have every song they ever recorded. My kids love when I put Disk 1 in the player at home and blast the music. They all dance around and even Luke sings. Too much fun. |

thx Tramp. hey JB2, forgot all about Kid Lang - M*O*S*T excellent! so now we've got Spiderman (which then means pink thongs for the entire crew), golf carts (tons of them floating around the neighborhood) and high-power spud guns, too? careful, we're knocking on 'epic,' my brudda! :-) Kristi, yes, "Long Road Out Of Eden," a recent gift from my son Wade. disc one is my fave of the two, and track seven - "Waiting In The Weeds" - is at the same time so hauntingly, desperately sad yet powerfully harmonic melodically, well, i told D the other today this song has already earned a place in my favorite-songs-of-all-time list, something not easily done even with my simplistic tastes. very too cool that your kids rock out with you! :-) FB |

fun 'n games during recovery, the day after surgery. i'm on enough high-perf meds at this point that i look loony as a goon, or goony as a loon - kinda like my usual, those who know me might say.
just prior to discharge, two days after surgery. the doc has just pronounced the incision "healthy," i haven't pushed the morphine button in about ten hours (altho i'm still on two IM and one oral pain med), plus - perhaps most importantly - i can finally pee under my own power. in spite of all this admittedly good news, this was the most 'excited' look i could muster for Denise. |

yo Brad, whilst i got your attention - and thinking back to something Rotzaruck said earlier in this thread about hoping my downtime might free up my yarn-spinnin' fingers some - here's a little wordsmithery, music related, i think you're likely to appreciate. remember this guitar, and the young man playing it?
my Garrison G-25 acoustic guitar, hanging in a music store in Minnesota awaiting a new home and owner
Carl Johnson, BluzM2's son, putting the same guitar thru its paces, and pronouncing it "Fit for Ferris!" i bet these pix bring back some pretty cool memories for you - they sure do for me. anyway, here's a little piece i wrote earlier this year pertaining to my Garrison, in the form of an e-mail to my buds JB2 and Pdxs3t (Jim Corso) - hope y'all don't mind a little mountain bluegrass music story. :-) ********************************** good morning Jim and JB2 :-) Jim, first off thx for shrinking and cleaning up these pix for me, i really appreciate it! JB2 knows who the man is playing my guitar in the one pic, and how we happened to be crossing his path, and Jim, well, you recognized it as my guitar, which is cool, but you're in the dark about the rest. i'll fix that for you here in just a second. :-) anyway, this whole thing is prolly not too big a deal to anyone but me, but back in December i'd gotten tickets for me 'n D to see Wayne Henderson and Jeff Little in concert in Floyd, Virginia. JB2 is intimately familiar with the town of Floyd - from what he's told me it was a favorite stop for him and his Dad when they'd do their Blue Ridge Parkway motorcycle trips. Jim, the best way i can describe Floyd is to say it's an eclectic little country town with one traffic light (the only traffic light in all of Floyd County, in fact) where farmers and free spirits, and hillbillies and hippies, all somehow get along. one of the cool places to visit in town is the Floyd Country Store, which will celebrate it's 100th anniversary next year. it's exactly what it sounds like, a genuine old-time country store, where you can get just about anything you need from hard candy to corn meal to Case knives to Carhartt overalls. according to the present owner, at one point in the past they even made and sold a product in basement "that we really can't talk about much." he was kidding about not being able to talk about it, of course, and was referring to moonshine. the floors in the place are still the original hardwood, with a million miles of patina ground into them, and there's just a really good vibe when you walk in the front door of this simple old building. and every Friday night (and some Saturdays) they move out a bunch of inventory, set up a couple dozen chairs or so, and invite local old time and bluegrass musicians up on their small stage to perform. it's the perfect venue for this kind of music - simple, warm and honest. JB2's been there to Floyd before, and i've penned all the above to maybe take him back in his mind's eye, and for you, Jim, to help get you in the right spirit. and here's who we went to go see. check out these links for a minute, then come back to my story, ok?? :-) http://www.waynehenderson.org/Wayne/AboutWayne.htm http://www.roanoke.com/multimedia/crooked/grayson.html http://www.workshoplive.com/articles/article.cfm?id=55 http://www.allenstjohn.com/index2.php?p=Books like, cool!!! well, a bad ice storm came thru in December on the day of the show and it got rescheduled for this past Saturday night. we had a little snow that day, and it got darned cold for these parts, but the weather stayed good enough that the concert started right on time, and we had seats about eight feet from the stage. we were, as you can imagine, pretty stoked to be here, and all along i'd had a fantasy about getting a photo of Wayne holding my Garrison G-25, and maybe, just maybe...talking him into picking a song on it. after the show he had a steady streams of friends and fans lined up for hugs and handshakes and autographs, and i patiently waited my turn. finally i screwed up the courage to ask, and true to who he is he never hesitated, promptly gave the Garrison a quick and expert tune, and picked a beautiful little song that i wish i knew the name of but it doesn't matter - the song was gorgeous, and the fact it was played by this legend on MY guitar is something i'll never forget. a small crowd gathered around as he played - guitars always have a way of doing that, and when Wayne picks it happens even quicker. most of the folks listening didn't know why he was playing one more song, long after the show had ended, and they certainly didn't know the story behind my guitar (BadWeB and Buell friends), but that didn't matter, either. everyone stopped down and sat there mesmerized, just like me and Denise. that's her in the one pic, of course, sitting right next to The Man as he picked, and the look on her face pretty much says it all. this was really, really special. :-) the other pic is of Wayne's friend Mac. Mac is holding Henderson Guitar #400, which was just finished in October, and Wayne says he's keeping this one. i think both of you can tell from the photo what an absolutely beauty this guitar is. everything on it, and i mean EVERYTHING, he did with his own hands, and this is the guitar he played during most of the concert. while he played my Garrison after the show, his friend Mac was sitting on the edge of the stage, just out of frame to Wayne's left in the one pic, showing #400 to a steady stream of worshippers. i'm honored to say i touched it, and even more honored that Wayne got his DNA on my Garrison. he couldn't have been anymore down home about the deal, and to FINALLY hear my guitar sing, in the hands of this living legend, well, it brings tears to my eyes as i type these words, and that's the honest truth. anyway, that's the story behind the pix. this ain't a story for the internet, it's just for you guys, two friends who i knew would appreciate taking a minute or two and sharing a smile and a memory with me. Jim, thx again for tweaking the photos for me last night. sorry i was so cryptic about it all, i just wanted it to be a surprise for ya. :-) and JB2, thx again for the gift of the Blue Ridge Parkway. :-)
