I just ordered a set of front and rears for about a hundred bucks from American Sportbike for the Uly. Very reasonable I think... |

I paid about $125 for a set of SKF's from Applied - more info in this thread http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/142 838/348609.html?1206981160 |

Depends on where you get them. My local HD shop is getting about $80 a set plus tax. Your local bearing supply should have them for about half that or less! |

Personally, I'd be reluctant to buy OEM Buell/HD bearings, since the original supplier may be the reason for the failures in the first place. I would at least try to eliminate that possibility from the equation. . |

Hope that's 2 front + 2 rear? Yep - probably should have clarified that |

I paid under $30 for a rear set. Koyos, but SKFs were just a bit more. ???? |

Red_chili - The Koyos are about $17 and the SKFs are $33 at AIT. |

Thanks for the responses... My local HD/Buell dealer quoted $80 ish for either end.... it surprised me.... What has really surprised me is the different bearing out there that people are using... now more research is needed.... Since I am still under warranty should I go with OEM bearings???? |

Nathan- It might be worth going with the OEM bearings. It's been reported that Abe Askenazi from Buell said at Homecoming that they had investigated the bearing failures, determined that the root cause was water intrusion, and would have an improved bearing out by August 2008. We haven't been able to confirm that, but if it's true, the new OEM bearings might be an improvement over the aftermarket bearings we've been trying. |

Hugh- Thanks, I have read that rumor a few times and I can't remember where I read/saw it (Adv or here) about someone addressed the water issue by drilling two small whole in the rear hub to keep water from collecting. I may look into that option as well. The bearing are to be replaced when the tire change/wheel powder coating occurs this fall/winter. Local powder coater is cheap compared to the bearings alone... I though for sure it would be the other way around. Question really is when will these rumored new and improved bears be available and how will I/my dealer know the difference???? Cheers-Nathan |

I'm the person who asked Abe Askenazi about the wheel bearings at Homecoming, and posted about it here. It's not a rumor. I am looking forward to seeing the new bearings; but not intensely, as I had over 34,000 miles on my '06 Uly when I traded it in, and the original bearings were fine. I only have 11,000 on my XT, so I'm not very concerned about the wheel bearings on it. One thing I've noticed over the years is that when Buell addresses a problem area, and comes up with a solution; the solution works. |

I paid 30 for the front set and 35 for the rear set for NTN. Same as on the bike from my local bearing supplier that I deal with daily. Just don't let them get to this point.
47,800 miles on the rear.
I had changed out the front two days before. Guess I should have taken the time to change both. Luckily I was able to get the old bearing out and repair the hub and spacer. No other damage. I guess I will take my own tires of for change out instead of having a local bike shop do. I changed my rear tire out 4000miles ago and they did not say a thing. I am sure by the damage to the spacer they should have seen something. Learned my lesson on this one, will check my bearings like I change my oil. |

There's an interesting bearing thread in the 1125R forum here: http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/290 431/395448.html?1222162371 One poster claims SKF's 6006 bearings have a significantly better seal design than the other manufacturer's bearings. This would also be consistent with NTN developing an improved design for their seals at Buell's request. |

Red_chili - The Koyos are about $17 and the SKFs are $33 at AIT. A lot cheaper through a local supplier in both cases. I would pursue that first, I think AIT is pretty high priced. |

Mebbe it is just me, but I would not trust any bearings beyond 20K miles. Cheap insurance. |

I am with you chili. I have learned my lesson for waiting too long to change out. Next time I will watch more carefully to make sure I am not running on bad bearings. Brian |
