In the next few days I am going to be going in to make an offer on a 08 XT that the dealer has had since the end of April. What do you think would be a fair offer for me to make? I have a number in my head but want to see what the people of Badweb think. Thank you

Sam

From experience, it is worth every bit of msrp. If you can get it for 13,300 otd would be a great deal.

Well I can get an 07 X with bags brand new full warranty from a different dealer for $9500. I would prefer the 08 but I can get an 09 soon so don't want to pay msrp for it but not looking to steal it either.

I paid $12,100 otd for my 08 x with all three bags, triple tail pad, buell quest gps, and a tall windshield. They also gave me top dollar$$$ for my trade. Your bargaining will greatly be affected buy the kind of month the dealer is having. Bottom line and all that. Best of luck to you

With what you just said I would start at an offer of $9500. Negotiate from their. All they can do is come back with a counter offer. Remind them that the 09's are out.

I really hate negotiating for new vehicles. Games Games Games.

Start negotiating from there. What will you ultimately spend?????????? Depends on how bad you want it. You can always walk away.

I had an 06 now have an 08. The difference is night and day. This 08 XT is one smooth ride.

" I can get an 07 X with bags brand new full warranty from a different dealer for $9500. "

You need to get the out the door price. A common tactic of vehicle salesmen is to get you all excited about a low price, but they tack on all kinds of dealer prep, delivery, and such.

Get the out the door price.

Umm......you guys are talking about negotiating with Harley dealers? Most will just say "price is on the bike take it or leave it" At least any I've been to. Although I admit to trying each time just in case I get a nice surprise LOL

So what's the bike you really want, the X or the XT?

Just because you can work a great deal on a '07 or even '06 X doesn't mean you'll be happy with your score a few k down the road when you really wanted an XT.

Get the out the door price.

Agree and agree. There was NO negotiating when I bought my '06 for $13k OTD. I just knew after a demo ride on a slower black one that I wanted that big orange bike, so I paid it. I learned to dismiss the deals I heard guys getting on '06's later, didn't care, got the bike I wanted instead of the GS I almost signed onto.

Deciding the choice between a X or XT isn't about price IMMHO. You gotta decide which one's for you then be happy when you get it!

Wow I musta been lucky. My bike was on the show room floor as a display, I offered $1500 off the tagged price, They accepted the offer.

I would decide on what you really want. Then call around and find a dealer that will negotiate. You could do the fly and ride thing. Call the board sponsors and see what they have going....

I was planning on offering $11000 for it OTD. Thanks for all the suggestions. I like both of them actually. I am leaning more towards the XT and will pay a little more for the "improvements" over the 07 but I will not pay the same as an 09.

Fly and ride.... hmmm.... good idea if this falls through I may need to explore that option.

Yeh! Thats great advice on the call around to the dealers and see whos' got what and whos' willing to make a deal. I did the same and I let my local dealer know that when it was time to negotiate.

An '08 XT lists for $12,995. For what you're getting, it's a hell of a good deal.

"Umm......you guys are talking about negotiating with Harley dealers?"

I've purchased two new Buell motorcycles from two different dealerships. Negotiation was fruitful and significant in each case.

"I will not pay the same as an 09."

What improvements were made in the '09 model that make them worth more? It's just a number, nothing more. Reality is that the production dates could be mere weeks apart between an '08 and '09 model. Don't let a model year designation cloud your judgement.

But yes, if the '09 models are on the floor, I agree that you should be able to negotiate at least a slightly better deal on an '08 model. Whatever you decide, good luck and let us know your final choice! : )

I am the luckiest guy in the world.
Saw am '08 "X" with the free bags
for $9800, used with 2800 miles.
Salesman said it would be $10700 out the
door. I said, "I'll give you $8800."
"He said "SOLD"!"
I was in shock, then I had to come up
with the money. Hadn't even ridden it!!!
Of course, it wasn't at a Harley dealer!
It would have been $14000 there!
They increase in value you know!

There are some shops that are into Buells. Connecticut is fortunate enough to have two. Danbury and one other that isn't a sponsor here, but is a good shop never the less.
I wish I'd made it to Danbury, but I had the opportunity to score a free air compressor, and couldn't pass it up.

I'd say you got a good deal. I paid full boat (minus a few $'s for the 125 demo miles that were on it) for my XT in May. I don't regret it, it's a fantastic motorcycle. The Zumo wasn't available yet, darn it....

What are some good bar ends to keep the handguards? Hands get buzzed after about 35 min. Also a while back someone mentioned a "cruise control" whose name started with a K. Anybody have any idea on that? I searched for my guesses but came up with nothing.

I would love to get you a deal on an 08 (we only have one left) or an 09 We only have one of those too. I am out of standard ULY's altogether. So if you want to do the fly and ride program and have your first adventure driving it thousands of miles home... come out to the last Buell Shop before you hit the Pacific.
Our inventory is up under the sponsor section... Its Legend btw ; )

Sorry CityX that would have been great but I already am enjoying my 08 XT. Going to be out near Portland in Oct so it may have been a cold ride home. Thank you though it is much appreciated. The people on this board and the knowledge made me feel 100% confident in purchasing this bike even with its factory installed flaws. Nothing major at all and a ton of knowledge on here on how to help them or fix them.

Carolina HD in Gastonia has at least three (3) 08, two (2) 07s and a couple of TTs.

Tilley HD in Statesville has two (2) 08 and two (2) TTs.

Both good dealers
