Is it just me, or is anyone else climbing off the Uly smelling like a dirty sock? |

Smells like Nirvana http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ixyTNd-Ln38 There was some really chunky mud tonite, I will post some pics when the sun comes up. What does the mud smell like? I need to know for the packaging of new improved Adventure dirt, featuring Road Smell |

I think everyone will smell after getting off any bike after a good long ride. You sweat more than you might think, absorbing every bit a carbon monoxide particulates from cages. You soak up ozone, allergens, scents from that dead skunk you passed about 9 miles back. So yeah, I stink pretty good after getting off my Uly. I love it! |

I'm getting the idea that my smell is unique. Seriously tho, i think its the exhaust. Even after a 3 mile commute to work and a few minutes at a stand-still, I get off the bike and my clothes smell like sulfur. Initially, I couldnt figure out where the hell it was coming from. Its a lot worse on cotton (shirt, jeans) than synthetics. Has anyone else experienced this? Is it my cat converter doing its job, or is there something wrong with my bike? |

I can assure you that your Uly's converter is not functioning. But seriously, there is a lot of crap blown around when you ride in traffic. Part of the reason I wear a jacket AND riding pants/zip offs. Helps a lot. Then you only have two things to wash when you want to start over. Or go riding in the rain I guess! |

"I can assure you that your Uly's converter is not functioning." Really? Interesting. The bike has only 4500 miles. Does this mean the whole muffler needs to be changed out...or just the converter? |

Ah. I know some bikes have them...I guess the Uly dose not. I suppose I'll just have to live with smelling like rotten eggs all day while at work. |

I couldn't figure out if you were making a funny, or really thought there was one - figgered my weak attempt at humor worked both ways though. |

LOL Where were you when I was making pizza the other day? "I can assure you that your Uly's converter is not functioning." Really? Interesting. The bike has only 4500 miles. Does this mean the whole muffler needs to be changed out...or just the converter? Absolutely. It is a safety issue. Run, don't walk, to your nearest dealer and purchase a Drummer or something. That line should work on your wife at least. Maybe. Did I do better at a come-back this time? |

Aeholton, Now you've singlehandedly turned me into a Ukelele Orchestra of GB freak. Love that Life on Mars. Kblackburn, You are not smelling dirty socks. The seat is so high and close to your snout after you climb off the seat that what you are smelling is most likely your own arse sweat/cheese/fumes. Sad but probably true. |

Thanks for humoring me. Butt, seriously...the exhaust fumes saturate my clothes and I have to spend the day smelling like a pair of sweaty socks (to myself and anyone downwind). Am I the only one? |

I have never smelled any sulfur or brimstone coming from mine , but then, I never made a pact with the devil either. |

Kblackburn ,just guessing but I would say that you are probably running a high ethanol content. That stuff wreaks. I work in a shop and when an engine gets fired up with that stuff it smells like rotten eggs. I use a fuel treatment and premium and do not get that smell, might be worth a try for you. If it works for you let us know. |

I run both ethanol and premium depending on the day and my mood and the cost to pocket money ratio. I have not noticed that smell unless i start up in a garage and sit on it while it warms up. I roll it out and start it up, no odor. |

I've been using only SHELL 93 octane. BMW ranks SHELL the highest for purity and minimal/no ethanol (they suggest you avoid ethanol in their motors). So I doubt its due to ethanol. Maybe I should try a different fuel. |

My wife once mentioned that my 9R exhaust really smelled, especially compared to my past bikes - Kaws and a Yamaha. I told her I got that at no extra charge. |
