Mounted my Hella FF50's to a Ulytility bar long ago.
After several months and thousands of miles the bar started disintegrating and two weld-ups didn't help it:
I don't have a pic, but in the one above at the right the whole horizontal plate broke off one day. Too bad, I really liked the bar. Replaced it with GME's bar:
Much stronger overall and an excellent deal but the bar doesn't allow pedestal mounts without a pivot. So I hacked out some extensions to push the Hellas forward and up and use the vertical post brackets as a semi-horizontal. Worked great until the Uly killed another component:
This bike's vibrations which don't bother or concern me personally but shake the crap out of peripheral parts. Kudos to Buell for designing stock stuff to have lasted 50k on my bike! (Knock wood) Aside from Death Rays and HID's (I like the comfort of redundant systems ) I'm interested in others' ideas. I know lots of you guys like the PIAA's and GME's bar can certainly handle anything you bolt onto it. What about other options? I still want to work out something for the Hellas, those things are great! |

Don't have pictures at this time, however, Motolights mounted low on the lower fork tubes would seem to be a good plan. They can also "burn" off some of the extra power being put out by the stator. 55 Watt Amber really gets the oncoming driver's attention. YRMV Buells to Alaska ALCAN 5000 2010 |

One idea would be to make a Ulytility bar from steel instead of aluminum. That's a small enough piece of angle that the minor weight increase shouldn't be worth worrying about. Steel is MUCH more resistant to fatigue failure than aluminum and might last indefinitely as a light bar. |

Or, a high tech Titaninum high dollar piece would be nice too. YRMV Buells to Alaska ALCAN 5000 2010 |

I went from Saeng Night cutters with the Ulytility bar. Night cutters put out lots of light but I could never get them stable.. they actually moved around on the mounts. To These... Trail Tech MR11 HID's and Luma link mounts.... (Message edited by gamdh on July 21, 2008) |

I am watching this with interest. I got GME's bar (a very fine piece) but don't like the lights I got and am looking at options. What have other GME folk done? |

Has anyone inquired about the XB12XP light bar bracket yet? Can it be retro fitted to our bikes and then we add our own lights? |

Excellent question. No doubt it would cost a lot more than GME's bar or home-fabbed, I think. |

Bolt 'em on where the turn signals go.
Big lights save lives. Except all the bugs that seem to be attracted to the bright light. 26k miles and not a problem. |

Some excellent aux lighting tips above. Jim Nance needs some pics of his flame throwers on here (you can't ride in front of him -- in the middle of the day he'll blind you ) |

+1 on MotoLights! I ran them on my XB9S(T) with no issues for 26K+ miles... Including two crashes.. Just readjusted them and off I go, again! |

For turn signals I put bullet led lights in the headlight adjustment holes
That way I have some chrome |

I've eyed those adjustment holes too and wondered what you could stick in there. (is that what she said?) I've wondered too how some lower profile aux lights would work simply being mounted to the turn signal stems? I know they vibrate but you can tighten them quite a bit. And for blinkers use the aprilla mirror with built in signals. Or maybe the mirrors on the new 1125cr |

Well, we've got another possibility with 09 parts- we could use the 1125CR mirrors with integrated turn signals and mount auxiliary lights in the turn signal holes like Lduly did. |

...- we could use the 1125CR mirrors with integrated turn signals... IMHO those mirrors are butt ugly. Drop the vertical stalks 3" then maybe. They look like afterthoughts on what I think is an otherwise wicked looking bike. Mounting the lights where the turn signals go is a good idea though. Since I aleady have and really like GME's bar I want to work with it. Maybe I'll go visit Wally and see what 'xslicker's lights look like. I can put the Hella's on hold for now, I want more lighting now! (Message edited by xbimmer on July 25, 2008) |

Now *that's* the set-up I want! What are the running lights? Custom made...I put a write-up on ADV. Very high quality. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend Reuel's workmanship. He can build whatever you specify. No affiliation or compensation for me...just a satisfied customer. Tipsy |
