So I just replace my front rotor and pads (2003 XB9R) and when i was putting the axle back on I wasn't sure of the torque setting. Is it possible that I crushed the wheel bearing if i torqued it too much? Now I an getting this strange metal scraping/grinding noise and that is the only thing I can think of... amy other suggestion would be appreciated. (Message edited by cthagreekgod on July 21, 2008) |

Well, I got the time to take everything apart again yesterday, and I found some bearings locally (thanks to a thread on this site I didn't need to wait for HD to get me some). When I removed the old bearing they were grinding so bad I could barely spin them. So I am still not sure if I crushed them or what cause the problem, but it was definitely the bearings. When I put the new ones in I was careful to use the proper torque wrench and torque settings. Everything seems good now. I have taken it on a couple of rides but I will be monitoring it closely to make sure the axle is still torqued properly. Last thing I want is a summer sault over the front bar... |
