My wife took the kids and grand kids on a week long vacation. I had to stay home and work through another potential couple of days off. She took my Denali for the trip because the Mustang wouldn't hold the group she was taking, and our eldest daughter took her minivan. Wouldn't you know they are 350 miles from home and I get a call that the front wheel bearing in the Denali has crapped out. They are at their destination for a family reunion in a state park. So I will have to pack my tools and clothes for a couple nights stay with them. Of course I have to take the Uly for this rescue mission. Damn sealed, un-greaseable, bearing hub assemblies. You can only replace them and they give no warning as to when they will fail. At least on the Uly the seal can be pulled out for inspection and a little fresh grease. I bet you all thought it was more bitchen' about Uly bearings, didn't ya? However I am nearing 30,000 miles on my Uly so I ordered a drive belt a couple of weeks ago....what is up with them being back ordered? For me, this finally equates to a couple of days off and a long ride on the Uly(my plans for Homecoming and this vacation, both of which had been deterred by business finally picking up for this year). Yes, even somewhat-new ones. My 1998 Suburban K2500 needed new front bearings last year....each side was $400 for the sealed bearing/hub unit (can't buy them separately it seems). Not much in the way of warnings either, until they were abruptly worn-out. doc |

Buell recently began filling orders with a new belt...with the part number ending with an "E" instead of a "D". I don't know what the change was, but I waited a month for mine, which showed up the day before I left for homecoming. Anyway, it is my spare (which I don't need right now)...so if anyone has a down bike because they are waiting for a backordered belt, let me know. |

According to Court they have suspended 2009 F150 production indefinitely, but I can't find anything online about it. |

Just curious. How many miles on the Denali? Curious about that myself. My Suburban has 189,000 and has to make a trip to GA in October!

Just replaced the wifes on her 01 Jetta 155,000, pre-emtive, per excess noise, and reputation. |

The Denali has 115,000 on it now. The first one went at 81,000. Buy a Ford........na-ga-da-it! Wife has one and it has as more down time days on it. It is an '05 with 35,000 miles on it. |

Kristi, if yours is two wheel drive it has the older-better bearing system. |

Etennuly...Don't you guys back East sleep??? Well now that I'm finding out that newer cars and trucks have POS sealed bearings and armed with my new Uly maintenance knowledge of greasing said bearings, if I decide to buy a four wheeled vehicle soon I guess I'll be well prepared! |

Don't you guys back East sleep??? Uh, yeah.....that's what I'm doing. In the last several years the front axles of most four wheel drive trucks have gone to the sealed hub unit design that has been used on front wheel drive cars for thirty years or so. Simpler lighter and less parts for the assembly line to deal with. More no maintaining with grease, throw away parts! |
