After encountering a problem this morning preparing for a trackday, I asked a couple of local machine shops to determine the front axle's thread: M24x2.0 LH Metric 24mm x 2 left-handed, obscure to the max, nobody in my time zone with a matching tap. I have two sets of Showa forks, 41mm set from 2003 XB9S and 43mm set from 2005 XB12R, and the thread sizes (and front axles) are identical. Yes, I searched BadWeb and Googled like crazy this morning, but this info appears to be new. Please correct if you know better. Buell Motorcycle Company, why didn't you install the axle from the RHS and use a right-handed thread in common size? |

Do you still need it? I might be able to get one, but it's a special order item... |

Corey- There are a couple of industrial supply sources that have these in stock, and I mean maybe two in North America! Both are $60 or so: http://www1.mscdirect.com/CGI/NNSRIT?PMPXNO=123464 00&PMT4NO=45699599 I'm going to install my 2nd front end after vacation (forks, triples, etc.) and then decide what to do with the fork that has damaged lower casting. What a pain! |

That may be where our source is getting them and we just pay a "service fee". I just called them up and asked if he could get them, to which after I stated it had to be left handed he said-maybe. Our first two sources just laughed and politely said good luck |
