My 08 Uly is starting to have a kind of weird problem, this has happened the last three fill ups. After filling up and taking off my bike seems to cut out really bad , it doesn't die but I have to rev the piss out of it for a few seconds and then it clears out. It runs rough and misses for just a few seconds and then seems to run fine. It kind of reminds me of an old Chevy at altitude loading up .Has this happened to anyone else? One other thing I ride with at least one finger on the levers at all times. I have noticed since new, (it now has 4500 miles)that the clutch lever tension gets lighter under Hard acceleration. If i'm just cruising ,which is rare, the lever won't move but get on the gas and it moves slightly towards the grip. Is this normal? thanks in advance, Dwayne |

The clutch moving thing is normal on a bike with big rubber motor mounts. When you accelerate it is just taking up the slack in the mounts. I don't know about your gas issue, sorry. |

Thanks Etennuly, I just read some archives that said I might be filling it up too full. It said California bikes have some emissions stuff and if I fill too full it runs like crap until it uses some of the fuel. I think I'll put in a new set of plugs and on Sat I'm going in for the ecm reflash so we'll see after that. Dwayne |

My 06 occasionally does the same thing especially after a hot gas-n-go stop when I fill it above the ring. Usually lights the check engine light for a while and runs very poorly, then picks up for no apparent reason. |

My understanding is that if you overfill and allow for the overflow to fill the charcoal cannister some of the fuell in the charcoal cannister will be pulled into the intake manifold flooding the motor. Next time before you fill pull the hose marked "to engine" and plug it. If the problem does not appear you are overfilling the bike. This applies to CA bikes only.. |

Yep, probably the CA overfilled problem. Best part is that usually when you leave a gas station you have to make some sort of a turn, the couple of times it happened to me it almost died on those turns. Lotsa unexpected fun... Thanks to BadWeB I figured out what I was doing. CA bikes should only fill to the rim of the frame fuel opening on the high side, no more. Ridiculous to have that canister on a machine that will get upwards of 50 mpg... |

I fill mine to the rim on the low side and never have a problem. |

Do like every BMW rider out there has done. Remove the charcoal canister, plug the vacuum source and run the hose from the tank to a safe spot near the ground, the oil filter area looks good on a Ully. If you overfill the tank it just drips a bit and off you go. For what it's worth I found bits of charcoal in the "source" vacuum hoses of my GS. That can't be good...... RON |

Gsron, It doesn't hurt anything to plug that vacuum source ? I've been wanting to get rid of that thing since day one , just because of the uglyness of it. Dwayne |

Dwayne, Nope all it does is pull fuel vapor from the tank to the charcoal canister and then into the motor so it can be burned. The GS had a switch that turns on and off with the ignition so vapor can only get to the motor when it's running. I left that there so the ECU sees it and won't set a code. I'm not sure if the Ully has the same/similar set up. Just make sure you leave the hose to the gas tank open so it can breath. I have seen fuel pumps suck a tank flat when the vent line to the tank was plugged. Remember it's illegal to remove or modify an emissions component. The one on my GS "fell off" but I was able to salvage all the parts....... You have to wonder about the guys/gals in the california who are in charge of this stuff. For instance the last time they messed with our "Ca gas" they made it 4% cleaner but 14% less efficient????? |
