With heating oil prices nearing $5 per gallon here in Maine something has to give in my budget. Trying to avoid it, but may be listing my '07 black XB12X in the classifieds. Sucks - this was the first bike I was truly happy with 100% of the time. 1600 miles, first service done, garage kept, not a scratch - bike is completely stock. Warranteed until 4/25/10. $8995... |

I'd hate to see you sell it. Every mile ridden on the Uly translates into money saved at the pump. Let's see, if you rode it 40,000 miles a year you could save enough to heat your house. (That's the same logic my wife uses when she comes home from shopping and says "Look at all the money I saved!") |

That would work except I have a company car and don't ride to work... She's got to go. Nice try though! |

Driven-I know Maine is waaay up north, but still-you're not burning heating oil still, are you? We live in Arkansas, but are from NY. My wife's sister lives in North Yarmouth-going to be visiting Maine the second half of August. We're talking about maybe moving there, too! I'm a bit worried about how cold it is, yet the charts seem to show that the ocean tempers that a bit. How's the riding there been? doc |

No,it's warm now, but I go through 800 gallons per year and at the current price that's about $333 per month. Just trying to think long term. The riding here has been great! Where in Maine would you be moving? My house is for sale! If it sells I can keep the Uly... |

That is one place a car is better than a bike, it is easier to live in. |

We're going to be visiting the Portland area first. Lots of internet browsing seems to indicate that area has a lot that we're into. We do a lot of bicycling too, both road and mountain. Our daughters are into horses, so we need to get a place with at least a few acres and no restrictive covenants that would prevent horse ownership. Two horses, six dogs, two cats, three kids...it will be a helluva move! Sounds like I should plan on building an earth-bermed home or something very efficient, with a woodburning stove maybe. |

Selling a Uly should be a crime, punishable by death! |

Switch to a high efficiency furnace, natural gas, it will probably pay for itself in a year. Block off a few rooms, add extra insulation in the right places, move south........but you probably shouldn't sell the Uly. |

Time to switch from heating oil. Geo thermal ain't cheap but I bet you finance it over a short term loan cheaper then the 333 dollars a month and you house heating bill would be significantly less. A bid I got in for a 5300 square foot house was 32 K but it will cost less to heat and cool a month then the 1700 square foot home We are in now! Amazing! Not worth the price if you plan on moving in the next 7 or so years but if it is a home you will be in for a while it is a good investment. Gas just went up out here and electricity is going to go up 13 to 30 percent depending on where you live, as I understand it. |

My next house will be sprayfoam insulated and I am looking into geothermal. Unfortunately I have no options at this point unless the house sells, which is looking pretty bleak. The Uly needs to go. |
