Hey Harlychanic - How do you like the download??? Did it improve the bottom end and fuel economy???? Did it reduce the 2k to 3k vibrations???? |

My dealer informed me that the Beta patch wasn't for all 08 Uly's .Does this sound right?? They told me it was by date of manufacture , mine was made Sept 07 and the patch wasn't applicable. The Service Manager said that any Buell owner can call a dealer with their VIN # and they can tell if the update is for your bike. |

Conchop- I have not been able to put to many miles on since installing the download last week, in fact I've barely run through a 1/4 of a tank since then. Have only taken 2 short hops around town so I haven't really payed too much attention to any driveability aspects. As soon as I can get some more saddle time I will report. Reedracer- How is you dealer looking up or receiving this info? Since no service bulletins have been released for this download I would be curious as to how they are coming to this conclusion. |

Here's the deal - I sell a chip for the early Victory's. It improves the drivability on the bottom. The early Vic's were horrible on bottom end and they did not come to life at all until you hit 2100 plus rpm. There was some real drivability issues there. We fixed that with the wvsuperchip. My Uly feels the same way. She's like riding a fresh thoroughbred mare. Dancing and hopping around in a really nervous way until you whack her just a little. Then you're zipping along and she's very happy. I think there is a real issue at low rpm's, just like the old Victory's eprom program. After the 3000 rpm surge, life is nice. Mine has had vibration issues from the start. Life isn't that nice until you whack her a little. Riding around these little back roads at 3 and 4k rpm's is not comfortable at all. There is a horrible buzz between 2.3 to 3 k rpm. I have a front elastomer that is on its way out. It looks like one of the dog ears has broken. It was tapping at the top of the frame mount from day one. Then there was no daylight at all between the frame and isolator with the motor off. I recently shimmed the front isolator so as to give it some more room between the isolator mount and frame. HOLY COW! I can go to 5th gear at 55 and 60 mph. That has never happened. The vibration was always too intrusive. It's still there, just not as bad at all. I am trying to get my shop to replace the isolator and do the download. I am in high hopes that this will exorcise the vibration demons completely. If not, there will be a Uly for sale. Therefore, I'm all ears on this subject. In many respects, the Uly is the best bike I've ever owned. The buzz is killing it. Thanks so much for your input. |

I don't have any vibes at all on mine. For me, the only issues I have is that it has no sack off the line and is running rich. |

After having to print this thread and take it to my dealer they are now going to re-flash on Sat. Which is good because I'll then put a couple hundred miles on it and report back my findings. Thanks for all the info, Dwayne |

reedracers , my uly was built in sept 07 , # 00342 off the line , the biggest improvement was the initial takeoff from a stop sign , i can now lug the engine at 2000 rpm in 2nd or 3rd in slow traffic , it still has a very very slight niggle from 2 to 3000 rpm but it just might be from so little throttle and the tps reading closed/part/closed throttle very quickly , i never had an issue above 3000 , at a minimum mine is 75% better but i'm extremely pleased , and i also flirt with 50mpg in varied driving conditions , just remember my bike also had an exhaust valve issue that was multiplying the problem , some have hung the valve open , its not right IMO , i have yet to try my bike with the patch and the valve opened , i'm thinking of installing a different exhaust this winter , but if it causes issues , i'll leave it stock conchop , my bike never had the "buzz" your describing (Message edited by 9_ford on June 25, 2008) |

Just had dealer in Penn. install new map for 08 uly. {the tech told me about it}I was on the road and had a flat spot at 4000 to 4500 rpm. New flash did not fix the problem but did notice low end improvement. Fuel economy, I need to look at. Any ideas on the 4k lag? [No Charge from dealer!] |

Loaded the patch last night (08 Uly, 4500 mi). Took about 30 minutes using the Pocket PC Digital Tech. 50-odd miles later, the bike feels pretty much the same. Might have a slight improvement in first-gear-at-idle speeds. It will take a few days to see if there's a mileage change. Mark in Arizona |

We just loaded one in an early production 08 X on the showroom floor. Once we got it to take (had to plug in the little orange box - techlink? - on the DT instead of letting it power off the USB), it took about 10 minutes start to finish. Haven't ridden it yet, but have a customer coming tomorrow with an XT that we're going to do. Ron definitely rides, should have a first-tank mileage result within...oh...an afternoon |

Got my reflash down in Frederick, MD today. (Ratbuell's dealership) Very much improved in my opinion. Much smoother down low, happy to chug along in 5th at 2500-3000rpm without surging. At 2000 in 5th a roll on will get you a bit of a shudder but then it settles right down and pulls. I filled up immediately after leaving the dealer. My fuel light came on at 172 miles, that's a first for me. Now I feel confident that I have a 200 mile range. I haven't filled it yet so I can't give you an accurate mpg, I'll do it tonight after I take care of a few errands that I have to use my truck for. The only negative I can report is that this flash screwed up the accuracy of my speedometer. My speedo always tracked exactly with my Garmin 2720 GPS. I mean EXACTLY. Now the speedo reads about 4 mph off at 70 (70 ind. = 66 gps). I did a mile marker check of the ODO and it seems to be OK. I'm mildly bummed about that. |

I filled up immediately after leaving the dealer. My fuel light came on at 172 miles Wow! That's impressive. I've never gotten anywhere near that far before the light illuminates. Going to try to get the flash done this week. Tipsy |

OK, here's the tape.... 176.2 miles / 3.646gallons = 48.33mpg Whoo-Hoo! I'll take it.... For reference I got 43.06 mpg on the way to Frederick this morning. That's over 5 mpg improvement and I was hammering it harder on the ride back. Ulyscol, the reflash is available, you need to get another dealer or educate the one you have. |

Is there a Buell in Western WA other than the Harley dealer in Bellevue? They don't believe that there is a reflash... |

No fill up yet, only 110 miles, so no mpg report. General riding is subtlely improved. A bit smoother here and there, the sweet spot seems to be about 3200 rpm, just a bit lower than before. Better running at extremely low speed. Before, lowest first gear speed (gps readout) was about 9.3. At that speed the Uly shook hard and threatened to stall. Current lowest speed is now 8.7. Shakes less and will continue without throttle management. Definite mid-range torque improvement. I had never before accidently wheelied when entering freeway traffic. I probably won't need fuel until Tuesday. We shall see. Mark in Arizona |

Rahbert - Yep. There's one in Silverdale (where I bought my bike from - but 180 mi round trip is just too far from Tumwater) Dropped it off today @ The Destination Buell dealer in Puyallup. Blew my rear shock up in Yellowknife - gettin warranty work done. Asked Daniel (service guy) about replacing the kickstand bolts that came loose & reflashing the ECM. He seemed to know what I was talking about... so maybe worth a call. Good luck. j |

Ron - you're right, I didn't scroll up far enough. Sorry That's AWESOME news on the mileage!! To those who are wondering...there IS a flash. It IS NOT "papered" - there is no bulletin that I've been able to find. Nicely persuade your dealer to hook up your bike to Digital Technician (say you think you have a trouble code if you have to). Once it ID's the bike, it will display the current program number (posted earlier in this thread). There is a button for flash updates on the DT; selecting that will show only the new flash ID. Select that, follow the onscreen instructions, and the bike will be reflashed. Start to finish it's about 15 minutes depending on the speed of your dealers' DT computer. |

Ulyscol M31US25y is the new ecm # , B31US25o is the old # , as per my dealer it is for all 08 xb series bikes , go back in armed with these numbers sorry i don't have a ECMspy cable to show what was changed , but its obvious buell did something in drivability and increased mpg , it even starts better cold and to think a few people sent me e mails to tell me i was full of it |
