I just installed a V&H slip-on on my 99 M2. I had all the connections loose at first and the front mount was at least 1/2 inch too far forward to get the bolt through. Has anyone else had this problem? I forced it back, got the bolt through, then tightened all the connections, but the last thing I want is added stress on the front mount and/or the header bolts. |

Did you discard the factory rear exhaust hanger? With the V&H kit, it's easy to fool yourself into thinking that the supplied hanger just bolts to the factory one. It doesn't; you have to totally remove the stock rubber mounted hanger and use the V&H piece. I made this mistake and noticed this same issue; the rear of the pipe will hang down low and the front mount won't line up at all - DON'T FORCE IT! I've had no problems with my V&H for 12,000 miles (yet?) since I properly installed it. Thank you BadWeb! |

Pulled off my e-series to put on a vance pipe. That was last week. The rear hanger makes contact with the tranny case so it will not line up with the connection point (stock grommet location). Have removed about 1/8" to provide min. clearance. Now connection points line up but there is a 1" gap between the back of the supplied rear hanger and the forward rear connection point. The front hanger is misdrilled by 3/8". Drilling a new hole is going to create a funky double hole, linked at about 45 degrees forward and up (like a drunk 8, 'bout to tip over). I've seen a lot of Buells on e-bay with Vance & Hines pipes on them, does everyone have the same fitment problems with the slip-ons? I have the Y bracket up front and removed the Z bracket when I put on the e-series (which was a bit difficult but not like an engineering exercise). I may put the e-series back on so I can ride, it was removed in favor of directing exhaust fumes somewhere away from the rider, I put on their deflector but still had to hold my breath at stop lights... Either way I get dizzy when I spend too much time stopped with the engine running. Anyone have suggestions for the vance? It was spec'd for the Y2K S3, I didn't think there was a difference. Certainly the engine cases are the same so the rear hanger is definitely a manufacturer error. -Mike

Sounds like you might have an incorrect z-bracket. Are you using the one supplied with the V&H? |

my V&H i got on Saturday for $40 fit real nice...except for the pipe going to the header was 1/8th inch too small,there was a gap all around the pipe.It looked like it SHOULD have slipped OVER the header but there was no way that was going to happen!Had a spacer made at an exhaust shop,doesn't leak or anything now.My complaint is now if you rip into it,it bogs down for a second or two,then hang on!!(Any ideas on a cure for that?) |
