Will the XT flyscreen work on an SS? How about the seat? I love the riding position, but don't want the luggage, or need to trade in the Ss, as it is only about a year old, and I love it. Wonder what I can get from the XT that'll fit? |

Could be wrong but I'll say no on both w/o changing a lot of the hardware. Seat will require the whole tail section and fly screen will require headlight mounts and possibly dash. |

Go with the Ss Touring saddle and a Laminar Speed Shield. I think that's all you need. |

I would rather get the other stuff, maybe, if it'll fit. Have you sat on one yet? They are the maximum in comfort. Changing the tail might not be as difficult as say, S to R, or visa versa. Bar change probably involves a rewire and cabling. I guess we'll probably hear about some other stuff before too long. i'd trade for it, but my 07 has barely 2K on it. besides, I am going to wait until at least next year to see what else is coming out. Maybe 2010. It happens every time. I bought an S, 6 months later, they came out with the SS. Since there was no long R made, and I thought great, I can handle the SS. 6 months later, the 1125R came out with longer dimensions, and a better lump. I can't catch a break with these guys. They milk me worse than Harley does. |

The fly screen will work if you drill new holes. |

I am in the process of doing exactly what you describe, well except for the windscreen. Right now I have about a grand in parts with purchasing from sponsors and ebay. THe only thing I lack currently is the back angle sensor mounting bracket and basically the bank angle sensor recall kit. So far no wiring difficulties but I am doing that this afternoon. If you would like some pictures I could send you some. |

The reason for the change is my wifes big fat............well ya know. If it was just me I would never have changed from stock. If she likes it enough maybe I will buy and XT and change the SS back to stock. |

Lost, Would like to see the bike when you get it finished. I'm up the road from you about 50 miles, could meet at Farrows or bike night at Quaker Steak. Just bought a new 07 STT, and was thinking the screen from the XT looks to be almost a bolt on but I'm not that familiar with Buell yet. |

No problem. I am always up for meeting new peeps. I don't mind a ride to howard any decent places to get something to eat. The only problem I have encountered to this point and it really isn't a problem is all of the extra wiring to the fuse block. I considered trying to coil it up but, figured that it would be a point of failure. In the SS it is mounted further back. So what I did was just mount it in the underseat storage are no biggy I never had any anyhow. I kept the BAS mounted to the latch assembly and went ahead and mounted the fuse block back to it and drilled thru the floor of the trunk to mount it. My pics are too big I can't post them. Does anyone have any recommendation for a free photo resizing program????????? (Message edited by lost_in_ohio on March 31, 2008) |

Looks good. I think I would have opted for the XT seat instead of the uly seat. Did they make you a bargain on it. Looks like a seat off of an 06 is why I am asking. BTW, what exhaust is that? |

It is a Buell race exhaust. I paid 40 bucks delivered for the seat. certainly better than 200 for an experiment. |

I saw somewhere in Cool Buell Pics there was a Sunset Orange SS with a black Uly flyscreen. I have the pic on my desktop but do not know how to post pics up. DOOM |

Lost_in_ohio, PLEASE be careful with your conversion. The undertail WILL hit the fender & most likely the tire, causing it to lock up at full bump stop on an SS. It comes withing 3/16" of an inch on the TT. There is a reason they haven't made the XT any lower than it is The wiring wasn't difficult(I did the same conversion on my TT). But i wanted to keep the trunk space(great place to keep the rain suit, and other things). I took apart the fuse block, to make it similar in shape to the Uly.

Thanks steve.....I talked with you at homecoming about the rear suspension. When I started I was aware of issues and planning on either using the xt suspension or trackside engineering to get it right. Looking at your wire loom it looks like you removed about 6 inches of the loom at the fuse box end. Is the TT wire loom the same as the SS? What did you do with the BAS? |

I have the Uly windscreen on my Ss and it is great. I didn't like the look of the Laminar Lip. I have the stock windscreen but they make a longer one. Search for a thread on this about a year+ ago on how to install. The only thing is you'll have the original four mounting holes left unless you fill them. |

So does anyone know what happened to Track side Engineering? |

Lost_in_ohio.... Sorry, so many people talked with me about the "ulybolt".... I didn't remove *ANY* of the wiring to the fuse box, and the TT has an identical wiring harness. I'll take some better, more detailed pictures for you tomorrow and post 'em up on my smug-mug account. The BAS is in the original ULY location, and I haven't had a single problem with it there. I may have to purchase the recall kit, so I can relocate it. Also, call Bud Curtis at Hals. They still deal with trackside. I know they changed ownership not that long ago. Hals # is 262-860-2060 |
