Hi,

I'm getting the itch to put a Drummer on my ULY but would like to buy another muffler so that I can switch back if I find it too loud or maybe if I sell it in a few years. Does anyone know which ones would work? I occasionally see some for XB9's and am wondering if they would work.

Thanks!

XB mufflers appear regularly on Ebay. Why don't you ask Kevin if a regular XB muffler would work? I don't think the difference between Uly and other XB mufflers would matter. However, I don't know.

The difference between the two mufflers is the exit pipe.
The the Uly side stand will sit in the exhaust exit path with the standard XB12S... tip.
With the Drummer tip, no problem.

Don't be in a hurry to switch back if you think a Drummer's too loud. At first mine was too loud and I was getting buyer's remorse. But it mellowed with use (or did I go deaf?)and now sounds sweet.

If your not wearing earplugs just for the every present wind noise then you will surely need/want them with the Drummer. I switched to the Drummer and really like the sound and the the slight improvement to the low end grunt but on long rides without plugs your hearing would be dulled at days end.

I think the Drummer does mellow over time but more than likely you also get acustomed to the sound. Helmets change the perceived sound also. It is amazing how much sound from a Buells pipe bounces back up from the road surface and is funneled to your ears from the bottom of the fullface helmet.

Just got back from VIR watching Buell's dominate in Thunderbike Class finishing 1 & 3......those bikes make some seriously nice sound on the track

Hi Pso,

This is what Kevin says, "any xb stock muffler will work"

As a core exchange IIRC, since the power valve is removed on the Drummer. The XB9's don't have that valve, correct?

Teeps is correct, a Lightning or Firebolt muffler on a Uly will have sidestand interference problems. Keep your Uly muffler and find a XB muffler for your core to Kevin.

Ear plugs or not, at freeway speeds most of what I hear is wind. My Drummer seems louder than others I've heard, but I bought it used so maybe the packing is gone. It's never become quieter IMHO, but that's good when lane-splitting in SoKA.

I also have the Drummer. its a nice pipe and I love the sound but it is pretty loud at times. I was thinking of making a "quiet insert" on the lathe for when I go into Yosemite Park. they don't like loud bikes and I can understand that one. Has anyone tried any kind of insert in the pipe exhaust tip?

2007 Uly. Has anyone had their sidestand collapse because the anchor bolts sheared off causing-of course bike to fall over? Curious if I'm the only one this has ever happened to.

Sidestand Assembly Replacement For 2006 Ulysses XB12X

Shouldn't affect a 2007 model though. But if your 2007 was manufactured before June 16th, 2006 it would be affected.
