Start making plans for the "Second Ever" Res Ride! It will be the Friday and Saturday of Memorial Day Weekend, May 23 and 24, 2008. Early plans look like a Friday evening ride either before or after supper (or both) then the main Res Ride on Saturday. Instead of being one big loop (like last year) I'm going to break it up into 3 more manageable loops. This will allow more options 1: ride at your own pace, 2: ride how far you want and take a break, 3: If you want to ride it start to finish you can, if you don't - don't, 4: if you couldn't arrive when we all left last year you were stuck with no riding at all, divided up, there will be riders in and out all day long to ride with, 5: if you liked a certain route of the Res Ride, go ride it again, and again, and again.... Oh yeah, did I mention the free TPS resets? HQ will be at my shop located at 550 N. 5th Street, Bellwood, PA. If you use GPS or Mapquest to get driving directions use 600 N 5th Street as your destination, my building's address isn't in most databases yet. Otherwise Mapquest will direct you to EAST 5th street, the other side of town General location: I'm 7 miles north of Altoona, PA off of I-99. Half way between Pittsburgh and Harrisburg east to west and half way between I-80 and the PA Turnpike north to south on I-99, exit 41. I'll try to find a link to last years Res Ride thread. If you need further info, you can PM me thru the BadWeB or post questions here. See you then! Toona |

What Ekass is referring to is his "ability" to score some nice room rates at the local Holiday Inn. But he needs enough time to put it together. IIRC, there were 4 people/couples that spent the night last year at the H.I. This H.I. is a nice place and they let the guys park their Buells under cover/on the front patio outside the front door. Instead of being out in the parking lot. There's a Perkins next door (actually in front of the H.I.) and an Olive Garden and Red Lobster across the street. Fast food and other chain restaurants are maybe 1/2-1 mile away. The H.I. is about 11 miles from my shop. There is only one other hotel that is real close to my shop (Knights Inn-Bellwood) and I don't think I would stay there, it would rate 1 star, maybe even 1/2 star. |

Ha! When I bought my Buell I stayed there. What a dump. I put my bike in the room with me at night. Bought in Harrisburg and road back. Left Hburg around four and hit the hills about 7 at night. Was not prepared for 25 degree weather at all. But a fun ride on my new bike in January! I can imagine how much better the HI is. |

Wile, how long ago was that? (That you stayed at the Minuet Manor at the time). That "motel" is about 3/4 mile from my house. |

Last year right around this time. It was just too cold to go on. I made it home the day after but broke myself in to the Buell over the 425 miles. My girlfriend followed me back and constantly complained at stops that I was going too fast. I felt damn good on it right away. |

Hello everyone. Just posting here to find out the road conditions in your area. I have a (rare) free weekend coming up and I'm thinking of taking a ride out to your neck of the woods. Possibly Allegheny park. Any input would be great. |

Never mind, I just saw the weather forecast. Looks like snow midweek and staying cold. Still, going to try to make the "second ever" res ride. |

Greetings Ulynut, Yeah, the weathers been ugly since last fall. Only 1 or 2 days where I even thought about getting my bike out, but too much "anti skid" (gotta love that name) on the roads. So my baby is all tucked away hibernating. To check the weather, enter either Altoona, PA or 16602 at the weather.com website. If you need a room for the Res Ride, PM or post here. I'll let Ekass13 work his magic again at the H.I. Express. |

Toona, anything I can do to help. I used to work for the holiday inn as you know. I still have friends there that can help use with "friends and family group rates." The earlier I know how many rooms we need the better this will work out for everyone. |

Copy/pasted from the official info thread on STN (sport-touring.net). Here is a link to the thread: http://www.sport-touring.net/forums/index.php/topi c,21632.0.html Reservations have been made for the 3rd Annual Region 6 "Meet and Eat" at Dennys Beer Barrel Pub in Clearfield, PA: home of the Worlds Largest Hamburger. Expect about 100+ riders to show up from all over the region. Most are from the Pittsburgh area, but more than a few people make a weekend of it and ride there on Saturday, spend the night at a local hotel (Days Inn?) and ride home on Sunday after lunch. DATE: Sunday, April 20th. Show up by Noon and BS/eat/etc until 2-ish I got the following reply from Denny when inquiring about reserving the back room for this year: Quote: ? Select ? ? Expand ? Hi, we were just talking about your group at our management meeting on 2/1/08. We will have half the building reserved: the entire top section including the dinning room. I will post notice for your event on our web site also. We are also going to offer "SPORTBIKE BURGER RUN SPECIALS" of course with some added flair and couple of gift card drawings as some added bonus. If there is anything further I can do let me know... Best Regards, Denny For more info on Dennys: http://www.dennysbeerbarrelpub.com Last years info thread: http://www.sport-touring.net/forums/index.php/topi c,4609.0.html Last years report/pics thread: http://www.sport-touring.net/forums/index.php/topi c,7446.0.html |

Thanks Chasman! That is good to know. Denny's has excellent food and a multitude of choice beverages! I would hazard a guess they can seat around 100 people packed. While you are in Clearfield check out Grice's Gun Shop and Auto museum! Scoot on down south and your are in Toona's neck of the woods! mark61 |

Anyone in need of a hotel room at the Holiday Inn Express for Friday night? Ekass is getting ready to set up rooms and needs to know how many to reserve. Please chime in! (or be left without a room) |

I have bad news.. The Holiday inn is not letting me book over two rooms with the discounted rate. They said it was because of the holiday weekend… The best advise I can give is to ask for the friends and family discount. |

Quick hotel search ordered by starting price EconoLodge $65-so so hotel, 8-9miles to my shop. Knights Inn, $70, closest to my shop, 2 miles-oldest hotel around Super 8, $72, right off of exit 32 in Altoona, closest to Lakemont Park/Altoona Curve AA baseball field, Pgh. Pirate affiliate, 9 miles to my shop. Quality Inn, $80, ok, a little older, 10-11 miles to my shop. Comfort Inn, $95, Duncansville, one of the newer hotels in town, about 15-17 miles from my shop Ramada, $105, closest to Outback Steakhouse(shares parking lot), TGIF, Ruby Tuesday, Kings, Friendly's, Target, Circuit City across street, Walmart just down the street. Just off of I-99,exit 31. 10 miles to my shop. Holiday Inn Express, $109. Most stayed here last year with the prior arrangements with Ekass, that deal is over, see prior post. Rooms are available there, but Ekass can't get a group rate any longer. Nice place, Perkins in front of hotel. Red Lobster, Olive Garden across street. There is also a seafood place next door that I've never been to. 10 miles to my shop. Hampton Inn $119, nearest the Logan Valley Mall, Hooters, EatnPark, KFC, Cracker Barrel. Don Pablos has closed. Just off of I-99, exit 31. 10 miles to my shop. Courtyard by Marriott, $139, nice but expensive, short drive to many restaurants, none within walking distance, 14 miles to my shop. I do have enough space behind my shop for truck/trailer/camper parking. I can check with my father for space if you wanted to pop a tent. He's about 4 blocks up the street from my shop. He has about a 60x60 lot that is all grass and level. May be a bit wet if it rains the week before. |

Friday is kind of an early evening ride, depending on who's here. Last year, we just met at the HI Express around 7-8 p.m. and rode to Ruby Tuesday for some food. If anyone is here earlier than that, we could run a loop or 2. Sat morning we met once again at the HI Express around 8 a.m. and rode to Tom and Joe's for some breakfast, met at my shop around 10 to start the Res Ride. My cell number is eight one four, 932, 7405. (I think you can figure that out ) |
