Reading these messages doesn't give me the warm fuzzies about the quality control of Buell's mounting system. (I guess I'm spoiled - I've owned 5 BMWs - all with very clean, integrated luggage mounts.) I'm hoping that the XT ships with the mounting brackets installed by the factory - but I'm not holding my breath. |

It's not that bad - it's just fiddly. I take mine on and off all the time. Widen the holes out in the footpeg plate a few mm, completely disassemble the wirework - ie 2 halves and connector befor fitting, finger tighten all fasteners first, use the correct sockets and tools and it's not that bad. 40 minutes and only mid level cussing this end. |

Yessir-a dremel bit in my drill widened out the footpeg plate bolthole enough to get all the bolts in simultaneously. Like Dave said, 40 mins and minimal cursing. These will not be staying on permanently, but when I travel, I WILL be using the red loctite. Had a bit of a scare with the middle right bolt threads...wow they strip easily. Only the first thread or so got bunged up, so I was able to save it. New12r-again, I was aware of the general 'misalignment' issue people have had with these bags before I bought them. It never crossed my mind to blame anybody. Thx again. CAN'T WAIT FOR BIG BEND IN MARCH!!!!! |

For anyone else with this problem. Loosen up the rear subframe bolts like Froggy said. The brackets get sandwiched between the rear subframe and the footpegs(bolted to the main frame). Loosening up the (4) rear subframe bolts will let the whole rear subframe move up and down a little and it will go together without having to drill or grind anything. The subframe has up and down movement until the bolts are tight, but they are usually tightened in the down position of movement when they are built and that makes getting the brackets lined up difficult. Hope this helps. |

Anyone have an old set of mounting brackets that may be bent or slightly broke that could hand them down to me. I only need the sides not the top. Actually only need one side and it doesn't matter which side. Any help would be greatly appreciated. |
