A couple of pics of the latest treat for the Uly. Could not resist when I saw it even though I have a perfectly fine Drummer on board now. It will be fun doing the comparo...
And a Little Doggy Style......
Looks good as new with reported under 100 mi.....dont' ask how much.....Momma's already spanked me on that.....looks like it will be a choice between Drummer and Race Pipe. |

Looks like your standard Buell race pipe. Nice I wish mine was that shiny. |

I wish more Uly owner were in this area: I'd really like to do a personal sound comparison. I haven't even run into Chadhargis or Ft_bstrd in WNC yet, even though I keep looking when I'm up there. I appreciate the low noise level of the stock exhaust, as I do run a few dirt roads through the mountains of North Carolina. I don't want loud, and from all I've heard of the descriptions, the Buell race pipe seems to fit the bill. I have done different exhaust systems on most of my other bikes, and really appreciate an "improved" sound. Definitely not loud, but not stock quiet, either. Typically I have used Akrapovic, and Termignoni also. I understand Buell's (and H-D's) reasoning behind discontinuing exhaust system sales, but when everything else is louder than their race pipe, why bother ? (Rant off) Maybe it's just as well the race kits are being driven up in price (supply and demand) -- one less thing to spend $ on. Congratulations Firstbatch, I hope the spousal frown is offset by your smile. |

I've gone from stock to race to drummer, back to stock, and now back to race again. I can't make up my mind. I wish I could take the best of all three and combine them together!

I had the Race kit on my City-X, Orangulius has one on his Uly. I like them. I think they sound great. But I like my Uly in stock form for the long hauls. |

I wish I could take the best of all three and combine them together! Maximum, What do you consider to be the best features of each, and why ? |

That's cool Steve...nice "rotation"....I'm a sucker for experimenting with exhaust too! |

Here are my observations of each pipe, but it is all subjective: Stock PROS: Very Quite (I like this 50% of the time). Smoother at highway speeds than the other two. Feels like it has more torque around 3k (more than race). CONS: Little weak at the top end. Not smooth between 2000-3000 RPMs. Race PROS: Nice growl, a little louder than stock but not too loud. Best power in upper 1/3 RPM range. Smoother than stock at lower RPM's (2500-3000). Two ports looks better than one (IMHO). CONS: Mid RPM dip in power. They don't make them anymore. Drummer: Best tone of all three (again IMHO). Smooth operation all the way down to 2000 RPMs. Torque and power curves are smooth across entire RPM range. Workmanship is excellent. CONS: Too loud for me 70% of the time (30% of the time I love it). More vibrations during highway operations (probably caused by the added sound volume). I feel like I need a 6th gear with this pipe (probably related to the extra vibes). So I would like a dual exhaust pipe that has two sets of inner chambers. One that functions like stock (only smoother down low), then with the flip of a switch changes to a chamber that sounds and performs like the Drummer with the top end of the Race pipe. Kind of like the XB12 servo, except the rider controls when it switches! |

Sounds like you are the perfect candidate for the Remus....Con on that pipe has to be the $700 and it might be as loud as Drummer |

That's better than the winter truck bringing you a brown treat. This is FT BSTRD. I fat fingered the Annony box. (Message edited by ft_bstrd on January 26, 2008) |

don,t want to be the turd in the punch bowl but certain cities are now ticketing non-stock exhaust systems on bikes. they are simply saying if you have an aftermarket system on then you get cited regardless of how loud it is. hate to say it but i believe this will become more widespread as pressure from the epa mounts and complaints from citizens increase. we as responsible motorcyclists need to be our own police before we loose more rights. i love the sound of a good aftermarket exhaust, however i cringe when straight pipe willie goes by on his run to the bar seeing how much noise he can make. if i as an avid motorcyclist hate to hear that imagine what your local councilman who doesn't ride thinks when he hears it. just my two cents and no offense intended. |

The regulations will come. The problem is more the HD crowd than anyone, but we'll all get splashed. The other side of the coin is to enjoy it while you can because you WILL lose the ability regardless of what self policing we do. The nanny state is pervasive. |

yeah, your're right FB it's a matter of when not if. i guess what i meant to say is if you throw on that $700 pipe and sell or trade your stock pipe then be prepared to be cited or pay again in order to have your bike put back to stock. often people say "oh they can't enforce such laws because what's too loud for some is'nt for others.", but the way around that is to simply say if it's an aftermarket system then you fail inspection. |

The problem is going to be identifying non-stock parts. It's easier on Japanese models. HDs you only have to turn them on. With Buells, there are relatively low numbers, so being able to identify a non stock part when using a drummer, race can, etc. is going to be a little harder. Eventually they will require all to boldly display a DOT sticker. Then you'll see a market in fake DOT stickers. It will also depend on where you live. California? Enforcement's coming next week. Tennessee? Several years. Hell, we just got 'lectricity and indoor plumbing last week. |

Is there a US source for the Remus? All I can find are overseas dealers. |

Andy at Appleton Buell sells the Remus. Seems like the price is static across the world on this pipe....about $720 plus shipping was the last price I have seen. |

I've heard the Remus. Sounds good but not better than the race muffler or the Drummer (about the same). For the money, you're better off with something other than the Remus. You would only want a Remus if you thought it looked the best. It doesn't sound better or perform better than any other IMHO. Frank. |

The Remus also can not be used as a lift point, but the benefit is that it meet Euro noise regs, which could be good for those of us want a hair more power, but better sound without the noise of the Drummer. Personally, I love the Drummer power, but it is also too loud for me 70% of the time. I have had the stock pipe, the race pipe and the Drummer. If there was a pipe in between the Drummer and stock in volume, but with better sound, I would be all over. Kevin says knows how to make the pipe quieter and still perform, but it takes too much time to make. I told him I would be happy to pay a premium for it - no dice yet. I just hope one of these days he decides to do it, because there are a lot of us on here that want a quiet performance pipe. And there are a bunch of who NEED a quiet performance pipe because of where we live. I would send my pipe for a retrofit right away. The Remus might be the answer, but there is not enough data on it, so who knows. How bad do the baffles hurt the performance, for instance. Which ECM and program should you use? Is there a hole in the powerband? On and on... --Sean (Message edited by thespive on January 29, 2008) |

I hate to thread hijack...but the title is just too appropriate. My new Drummer came in last night. Now, my only problem is when I get this piece of art onto my bike today, I won't be able to start it. My ECM is out to American Sport Bike for remapping (bad timing on my part). So I'll just have to sit and look at it for a few more days. I'll update everyone when the winter transformation is complete: A project so huge, not even my wife knows how much it cost
