Late start to work. 30 mile ride and 20 minutes to get there. 5 Lane expressway most the way. Was running about 80 in the cool morning air. Awesome ride. I kinda got pinned in by some slow pokes in the left lanes and had to slow to about 50. Siiiiing.. Crotch rocket passed me and split lanes a scared the hell out of everyone. Sounded nice too. He was doing about 80 or so. A few seconds later I had an opening and went for it. Didn't even downshift, just rolled on the throttle from 5th. In a few seconds I was rapidly approaching the crotch rocket and he tucked down and hammered it. No traffic in sight, so I figured WTF.. Hammertime. Twisted the throttle all the way and tucked down. All the way down. I was on the rocket in seconds. I thought he was gonna get whiplash, because he kept looking over his shoulder to see what the hell was on his arse. He tried one last tuck and haul, but I was already tucked and just twisted the throttle back to all the way. The roads were still clear, and as I passed him I glanced to the speedo and it was somewhere between 135 and 140. That is the fastest I have been in a very long time. The bike was smooth as silk. It has never pulled that hard before. The bike must be dialed in perfect. Hit the off ramp and went straight to the light and stopped. The idle was perfect at 950 rpm. The fan was not even running. About two blocks later when I arrived at work and shut her down the fan did not even come on. It was then that I realized my heart was pounding like crazy. What a rush. The more I ride this bike, the more I love it.

When you tempt the fates - you get to look at the world with a new perspective!

Supreme!

Nothing like a hundred mph in the early morning - good as coffee.

I know, I am a bad man.....But dayuum that felt good.

Twas the palmetto expressway at 0545. They just added two more lanes and repaved a few miles of it.

Hell, it coulda been a 250 ninja for all I know. It had a nice tail end and some kick ass pipes with sliders. Was probably singing about 10k rpm, and may have had more to go...just ran outta balls..

Hell, my balls sucked up so far inside of me that I thought I choked on them.

I don't plan on trying that again, but it was good to see how the 08 tree conversion went. I think it went well indeed. It sure was smooth man. 130 felt more like 80.

+1

I still wonder <exactly> how fast I was going ahead of a buddy on his Gixxer 750- he had a gear reduction by -1 tooth front sprocket, had estimated an 8mph overage for his speedo reading (by riding past a county radar trailer, which may/may not be overestimating)

(SAFE RIDING DISCLAIMER: We were riding on a straight section where only a deer/turkey/other critter could intersect, well away from civilization....)

His speedo read 150. Did my XB9SX really do 142?????

Fast enough in any case.

And people think that because a Uly is big that it is slow. Way to prove them wrong.

Just be careful. Finding a gator crossing at any speed would be a bad day.

The crotch rocket probably though that you were the grim reaper out for a morning ride and looking for more souls. I guess the death rays would give that impression in the early morning darkness.

Treadmarks, have you dynoed that thing yet? You could very well be at or over the horsepower of many sport bikes. Most new 600's are in the low 100's at the rear wheel.

86129, probably not, but close. The gear change is a percentage rather than a static number. My gixxer 750 is -2 in the front and +1 in the back, and my GPS shows the speed is off by about 10%. So if my speedo reads 150, I'm actually going 150 - 15 = 135.

Treadmarks, what kind of tires are you running? I have the Dunlops and they wobble like crazy anything faster than about 100 or so.

Let's just assume it was a liter bike and keep on smiling.

Jflaig,
A gator would be bad, thanks for the good advice. I have already hit several objects/critters and I see the need for a damper so it is on the list.

Sanchez,
No dyno yet Brother. This thing pulls like a big block on the bottom end, and around 3k horsepower comes on and does not fall off, probably due to the ported heads and open air/micron with American Sport Bikes fuel map. With the AFV being 100 every time I check it, I see no need for a dyno and this feels like the perfect combination for the Uly and what I ask of it. With the forged 1250 pistons I will increase the rev limit to the new specs as it is still pulling very hard at 6k. I wish I had a video of the guy as he kept looking back to see what was running him down.

Ulynut,
I am on my second set of tires and they are bald in the middle because I have no curves and it is a daily driver. I had the dunflops and hated the wobble. Changed to syncs at 7k and the difference was amazing. Time for more now tho. I will get something more aggressive this time. I wish the distanzias were a better fit.

Dentguy,

I am with you Brother. I doubt it was even a middle weight, and judging by the authoritive sound of it, and the way he continued to look back in disbelief and the fact it must have had a pretty nice tune on it...I'm banking on the liter class as well. It was stupid of me to run him down like that, but like I said...It sure felt good. When I sat up and began to slow down, the force of the wind tried to push me off the back of the bike. I'm just not used to riding that fast.

I don't know what it is about the Uly and the mod combination I have now, but when I am riding it I feel like a teenager again. It is not until I reach my destination (work) and switch of that perfect idle and dismount the bike, that the cold harsh facts of reality hit me like a sledgehammer. I live to ride that bike. It has a drug like effect on me, that I can not do without.

Hi, I'm Treadmarks and I'm a Ulyholic. It has been 1 hour since my last ride (in the pouring rain) and I am not sure I can get through this day with out a noon quickie ride.

Over 120 for more than an hour about 35 mpg.

Around 70 on the slab I get about 55.

Two up fully loaded with hard bags on back roads, gravel, dirt and pavement we got 65.

To work and back as a daily driver (when I'm not running down crotch rockets) about 52-55.

Treadmarks, You have taken the first step and admitted that you have problem, and know what it is.

When you open up the Uly rehab center, you will have to make it large enough to house all of us.

Let us know if you start to O.D. and we'll try and send help. To keep this in check, take 1x squid weekly, and get to work safely.

I'm jealous of the Rep of Miami.
