Great info guys. Does anybody know the part numbers and prices for the City X and TT bars? Would one of the aftermarket bars be a better choice? 
How bout the cable length? Will they work or should you get some that are shorter? |

FB- Just curious, is there a specific reason why you prefer bars with so little sweep/pullback ? |

For those who want a little more sweep than what you get with motocross bars, Renthal makes "Road" bars with up to 5" of sweep and they are available in different rise heights too. Your local Cycle Gear or MX bike dealer should be able to order them for you. |

I just measured my Uly bar ... looks like about 5" of sweep (pull back) to me.
If you're standing on your pegs off-road a lot, you probably would want less sweep rather than more.
I'm thinking of the Magura X-Line Bulge Bars (OE on KTM) in their EX model, which is HEIGHT: 120mm, PULLBACK: 87MM.

But you would also need to get the bar riser and top clamp kit like Ft_bstrd, to make it work - they add 1" or so to the height of the bars.

I have monkey arms. With the stock bars, I had alligator arms when leaning off the bike. The flatter bars push my hands out furthe in front of me as well as pull my body positioning farther forward.
The width of the bars also allow for more leverage than stock.

 As I wrote earlier somewhere, I need more than a spell checker, I need an editor. The link you posted is the one that should have been in my earlier post.
I'm not sure about the pullback issue. They don't have a diagram but looking at the pullbacks for a bunch of other bikes, 9" isn't all that large. I haven't tried to measure it though.

No problem bro; BTW, I think I found the mistake on their chart for the Uly - they switched the 'pull back number' with the 'center' number. If you look at the chart you can see that they show more pull back for the Uly than the Lightning and other sport bikes - that can't be, those bikes always have more pull back than our type of bike.
At any rate, here's how 'their' numbers come out (corrected). And my measurements were very close to these, as well.
ULY HANDLEBAR DIMENSIONS
Width: 30"
Height: 6.5"
Pull back 5"
The whole point to this (I knew I had a point here?) is that like FB, I too have freakishly long monkey arms (-37/38" sleeves) and I wanted to get a set up that feels better, for me, whether standing on the pegs or sitting down.
So, for what its worth, I will end up with these numbers with the Magura EX along with PE 1" bar risers:
Width: 31.3" ... (1.3" wider)
Height: 5.7" .... (.75" lower)
Pull back: 3.4"...(1.6" less sweep)

I'm glad you're into this because my pet fetish is my bike's ergonomics. The handlebar plays a significant role in that. I come from a bicycling background where fitting is done to the millimeter, literally. I am astonished at how limited our options are on motorcycles. Thanks for the additional link, quite interesting. Buells are built from the rider down IF you are sized like THE Buell rider.
About your "final" solution, I read the specs as raising your bar 1/4" (1" riser-.75" lower bars). I'm guessing you stand enough to warrant that rise. I'm ARAT (All Road All the Time) so I went to a lower height.

My bad, I should have been clearer - my specs included the 1" riser, which is to say, they were the 'as installed' specs.
Here's the actual bar specs:
Magura X-Line Bulge Bars EX model
WIDTH: 795mm……..31.3”
HEIGHT: 120mm….. 4.7”
PULL BACK: 87MM….3.4”

Any Harley Dealer will have the part number, got mine from Ocean County HD in Lakewood, NJ. I don't think the measurements on bars mean too much, it's a matter of individual preference. I first tried a Malcolm Smith bar (MSR), but my wrists were at too much of an angle. You can sit on the TT at the dealer, (which is what I did) and found them to be perfect, at least for me. But I'm warnin' you again, there too low (rise) to use for any off road work if you you have to get your ass up off the seat. You're leaning too far forward, and in any soft sand situation, down you'll go. All the cables worked, I had to snake the brake line down a bit, but it worked out ok. Also, I had to file the little nubs off the switch/clutch controls because the the angle was too great, (too high). Hope this helps |

I don't know if anyone else is interested in handlebar minutia (I could be/am obsessed), but I was over at ADV Rider's GSpot (BMW GS area) and got the dim. of the GS1200 from one of those nice bimmer guys. And learned a valuable life-lesson too, they're not all anal posers.... who knew?
GS1200 handlebars:
Width : .................32
Height /Rise:…...........6.5”
Pull back :…..............4"
Uly:
Width : .................30.5
Height /Rise:…...........6-6.5”
Pull back :…..............5"
So it seems their bars are wider, with less pull back (sweep) than the Uly.
I rode a GS1200 not too long ago, and it seemed more comfy standing than the Uly. Hence my quest for the uber-perfecr handlebar... also, my KLR650 seemed to be easier for me to stand.
Also, my god, you think we have Uly issues. Good grief, just visit that thread. Wow! A lot of those guys really got the shaft with their bike.

That's basically the look I am going for. If I thought it wouldn't be more work than it's worth, I'd swap out the front fairing and tail section as well. |
