Evidently my ass has the mystical ability to destroy Bank Angle Sensors.

My THIRD one has failed.

Maximum got to see if first hand. I dropped into a right hander and "Bluh", no go. As always, I cycled the kill switch mid turn and brought the beast back to life.

This will make two AFTER the recall.

Anyone have a clue why they keep failing? What am I doing to them? Are Uly's not supposed to lean?

I certainly lean mine, with no issue.

I'm thinking you have another issue maybe?

Wiring?

Do they actually test the BAS and determine it is bad, or just replace it?

Sorry to hear that Ft_bstrd, that could ruin your whole health record.

How far leaned over were you ?

Has anyone done a resistance check on the BAS circuit? If the circuit is grounding out and causing the voltage to surge you can fry sensors. Check the voltage on the circuit. See if you can activate the new sensor to see if you have resistance in the circuit. If you do trace the wires to see if one or several are pinched.

Maybe I am naive but cant the BAS be bypassed?

It can be bypassed. The only risk is that should the bike fall over or wreck the engine will continue to run and fuel will continue to pump.

Since this is only a problem on the Uly I would strongly suspect problems with the location.

FIrebolts and lightnings are leaned over as much as Ulys if not more and this never came up.

Then again maybe you should wear a dangerous emissions placard on your ass!

Ft_bstrd, just like your voltage regulator, your BAS keeps failing because you don't stress it enough! A weekly mandatory spill is required to prevent the BAS from failing : )

Fatty,

If you have ECMspy, I am pretty sure the BAS can be disabled through an eprom edit.

Let me do some digging and I will have an answer today.

Another fix that worked for me is to deflect the heat away from the bas/ecm. I did this with a modified odie blanket and have not had a problem since.

I am also on my third BAS but they were all before the recall/relocation. I wonder if it may be some loose screws on the mounting plate or on the sensor causing excess vibes. Any idea if they are using any loctite on the screws?

They didn't use any loctite on my bolts, because at Buelltoberfest I noticed I had no bolts. I had to scrounge some from U4euh. They are loctited now.

Fatty...I weight the same as you, and I am still on my factory BAS. No issues for me. I have shared some other problems with you such as the fan, rear bearings, stator, and voltage regulator. I've also had a leaking fork seal.

My wife says, "You need to sell that bike, it's always in the shop", but I love it so much! : )

I would be on my third unit if continued to change them when they fail. My original unit failed at a buck and change on the expressway on the way to work at 0530. I bought a new bas and replaced it. 3 months later, a buck and change on the exact same place at the exact time it failed again. This time I elected not to replace it, and just install heat barriers between it and the engine. No problemo since. A buck tewntyfive this morning, same dip in the same curve and the same time and no problem. No matter where you mount it, make sure it is away from the heat and vibes.

It can be bypassed. The only risk is that should the bike fall over or wreck the engine will continue to run and fuel will continue to pump.

There is a kill switch on the right side, and a key switch on the left side. If I can't get to it to turn it off, then let it burn baby burn.

My problem with her statement is that there isn't another bike out there that meets my needs like the Ulysses does. I'd love to have an Multistrada or a Tiger, but both of them have their downsides too.

The only non-17" wheeled option I'd consider is a 1200GS because I like those funky Bavarian bastages.

Just dont drop the bike.

I'll have the dealer replace it one more time under warranty. Next one that takes a dump, and I'll turn it off.

There HAS to be some reason mine keeps killing them.

I don't think you're killing them, just tripping it.
Who knows why, but...

My '07 tripped more than a dozen times in several thousand miles, until I bought a replacement BAS.
The new BAS sits in the saddlebag, waiting for the original to cut out one more time...

Been waiting for 6000 miles since I put it there, though.

At least not to the guys at mountain performance.

YES! I want to remove the BAS from my Uly. Now, about all that electronic trickery. How does that work?
