I suspect lower primary gearing might give you an increase in top speed as I've never got mine to redline in 5th gear, even on a high bank NASCAR straight. Let us know what it does to the cruise RPM in 5th gear running 80mph or so. |

I will do just that pics and notes. As an aside i am having a wild hair to put a fan in the scoops, rss and lss. I used to be in the USMC airwing and worked on RF4B's and just about any other plane they flew at the time. I like the idea of little intake fans on my bike. Might be a bad idea for proper airflow though. I wouldn't want to create any dead spots but then again if they where wired in so they would come on and off with the oem fan, Well just dreaming a bit out loud. |

Chad, It will actually lower your top speed. My bike will touch redline in 5th no problem. Has been there a few times with all the bags on and ZG screen. If yours won't do it, I suspect the drag of your (human)frame might be the problem. The XB9 Primary will make you get to redline sooner because it will come at a lower speed and accelerate faster. |

Yeah....my 6'5" sasquatch like body acts like a big sail. Once I hit about 90, things start slowing down. I've seen an indicated 130mph on the track in the morning when it was cool. The second session the engine was hot and the sun had warmed things up too, I could only manage 120mph. Here I am doing my best Star Trek "Scotty" impression, "I'm givin' 'er all she's got!" That's about all I can "tuck" too...my gut is pressed into the tank. I need to loose a few of my 235lbs. |

235 isn't very much when your around 6'5" to 6'7". I bend forward and my head doesn't even come to the screen. |

As you can see, if I could be forward a little more, I'd hit my head on the screen. |

I've been interested in the XB9 change for a while. My understanding is that it effectively changes 5th gear into 4th. I've pretty much stopped using 5th gear to see what the change is like on the top end. I've been pleasantly surprised. My gas mileage is at least as good. The throttle response is much better. Redline in 4th is about 120 I think, thats fast enough for me. I haven't put the kit on yet, but I'm not worried about top end any more. |

I have had the XB9 gearing since a week after buying the bike and it works fantastic, much better low parking lot speed manegement, and getts you in the revs where you need to be much faster. The Gas milage is the only negative as you are ridding highter in the RPMs the milage goes down a bit, I get between 42 and 48 |

I was told to keep the revs up earlier this year and have. I also get between 42 and 48 mpg. I try to keep my rpm at 3500 or so even in town. Thanks Al, do you paint bikes or just autos? |
