Picked up a new 09 XT last Friday and ticked over 300 miles last night.

Just had a cool spell hit and the instrument pod has started rattling very badly when the bike is at, or close to, idle. It is definitely the pod since a little pressure from my fingers on top of the speedo quiets it and sometimes even stops it and I can feel the vibration in my fingers.

Is this normal or do I need to run by the dealer?

I am loving the Uly so far. It bites that H-D shut them down, but I can't complain too much. It let me replace my last bike a couple years sooner than expected, and I've already gone 3 years without a bike.

It used to be common for the horn (located behind the flyscreen) to do this. It's possible that's what you're hearing and pressure on the instrument cluster could stop it or at least lessen the noise. If you pull the flyscreen off (8 screws) you'll see where the horn's been hitting the backside if that's the problem. Fix is to bend the horn bracket backwards slightly to provide clearance. If that's not it, I'd take it to the dealer.

I had the usual horn rattle, but I also had my speedometer/tachometer gauge cluster start to loosen up at the (3?) mounting points that you can see when you pull off the front cowl.
One nut actually vibrated off before I realized it in my case. Worth a look.

my horn rattled so I took it off and turned it around. That stopped the horn rattle.

My horn rattled and I took the stock road runner horn off and went to Auto Zone and purchased a universal car horn and bolted it behind the stock bracket. This cured the rattle and now I have a horn that demands respect.

My (09 XT) rattles like a mother! Drives me absolutely nuts!

I'm sure it's an easy fix, I just haven't taken the time to pull the fly screen off.

Pulled the flyscreen off and could see where the horn was just barely scratching against it.

Didn't even need to get drastic with it, just bent it a touch and it no longer rattles.

Thanks all!

I don't post often, but I read the forum everyday. Always learning something! My '09 XT at 400 miles has produced a random rattle also. Now I know where to look. Thanks again to BadWeb.
