This may be an idiotic question but looking at the service videos I notice the idler sprocket has little teeth on it. Mine has a raised ridge but no Teeth per say. I don't see where they might have been worn down either. Any of you guys with RX or SX able to shed any light on the subject, I'm certain the RS one has teeth.

The RS chain idler does not have teeth in the classic sense. They are more like lobes, being rounded off and shallow.

The RX idler is smooth - no "teeth".

Thanks to both of you. I was really expecting to see as Rodrob described something with teeth/lobes and thought I had a SERIOUS wear problem since it is perfectly smooth. LOL

just a wild-ass-guess here, but they probably did that to keep proper tension without causing any "back-side" chain wear...no sense wearing the chain from both sides!

I think they removed the "teeth" to reduce the off gas whine of the RS.

My RS whine is seriously loud!

For my part, I don't mind the whine. Between the race system under power, and the whine on decel, it is entirely unique. I have people at lights ask me about it. Conversation piece I guess. I miss it on the SX.

Once I realized what "the noise" was I relaxed.
Kinda like the sound of a dry Ducati clutch.

If it's not a lot of trouble, I'll radius the "teeth".
That should make a difference as the edges are all pretty sharp now.
Ya, mine is really noisy

It'll do that for you.
