DAY FIFTEEN, cont.

what follows is a bit of a hodge-podge-o'-pix, taken at the end of an eventful day, hangin' out at JB2's crib, snoopin' around, and shakin' off the load. there ain't much story line here, so's you'll just hafta follow along as best you can.

this'd be a shot of one of JB2's projects, and i can't wait to see it when it's done. JB2, if you feel like spinnin' a web about how you came in possession of this beauty just pull the trigger, k? : )

ever gander at the Team Elves multi-record holding LSR Bonneville Buell and admire the paint and body work? JB2 is THE MAN, and i can tell you you have no idea how much time, effort, and painstaking detail he has invested in that machine.

the fender here is just part of a "little" project that he's working on.

JB2's got an eagle eye when it comes to tires (maybe 'cause he spent the day pulling so much scrap metal outta the meats on his VFR...) and spotted this little beaut pokin' its nose up from my back tire. luck was on my side, as it went in about the same angle i'm holding it and never reached air.

pix of my pix, part 2: the BLURR at rest, looking east toward Washington's Mount Rainier, at sunset, still a long way from home, and getting colder by the minute. this photo, and several others, were later published by Thunder Press for a series called "Three Volcanoes."

the truly anal among you MAY remember Rainier Beer's famous TV commercials of years gone past. the commercial of the rider cruising by the camera, clicking off the gears (Raiiiiiiiiiiiiii...neeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeerrrrrrrr...Beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeerrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr...), with Mount Rainier looming in the background was filmed in this very spot.

pix of my pix, part 3: and this would be a more recent shot, of my ex-VFR (sigh) and one of the members of Dino's growing fleet, his speedy FZ1 (aka the Deer Hunter), taken here in California on the Western Divide Highway near Quaking Aspen and Ponderosa. NOTE: think twice before you consider letting Dino take your scoot for even a short test ride, as he has a way of making your hair turn gray (ok, ok, GRAYER!) right before your very eyes. : )

I'm hanging with FB on this one. The first three hours of this ride were every bit like the torrential downpours you see on the Weather Channel. My gloves are still wet. It must have been downgraded after we turned north and drove out of it. Right Ferris?

I'm not sure about Dino's wet dreams or Todd's golden showers but I will pass on this observation made by JB1, years ago on a bike trip, while at the roadside drenching our thirst with "pure spring bottled water", he says "You know this don't taste bad considering that some Indian pissed this water out a hundred years ago. Drink up boys!" It's all good! : )

a coupla shots of Fireman Jim's S2 blazing Bonneville, flanking a VERY cool Mopar clock. unless i've got my facts messed up (which, unfortunately, happens all too often), FMJ is currently running the BLURR's original engine in his Thunderbolt S2B, to the tune of about a buck-eighty this past September in Wendover.

JB2 does a fine job of explaining how this remarkable re-creation of Brinegar's Cabin came to be a couple of posts below. JB1 built this for his son (as a birdhouse!) and the attention to detail is amazing. note the "saw" marks in the lumber - like it just came from Mabry Mill - and the authentic-looking poles used to support the porch roof.

very, very cool. : )

Jerry, You'll never fire that bad boy up on a hot tire.
Huricane,Huricane,Huricane, I dont care what the weather Channel said.It was bad enough that Spidel and Spidette moved inside, and I had to jump from the porch to the hood of the truck to get up to the house seat.

ahhh... the 1948 Ford, my new truck BTW. A Fordor sedan originally. It was converted to a pickup truck in 1949. The old man hauled trash in it until late 1989 or '90 when he submitted to old age and died. It was in his barn for a few years and then sold at a farm auction. Back into storage for a few more years then it was parked on the highway about a mile from our home; for sale and the title was still in the first owner's name. I saw the potential of this fine vehicle, with all it's character and charm, as being the perfect shop truck for my fledgling business; BikeNutz.com. I snagged the 6 pound wild boar door stop from eBay and it will soon be my hood ornament. I don't want to go into too much detail about how I will approach it's future, suffice to say there's only one like it currently and since it will ultimately start a trend I will say no more. I forgot to put on the bras (borrowed from Chrysler R&D) before Jerry's inquisitive camera caught it sleeping.

Note; Ed will have to have a least two TVs and a washing machine on the front porch of his new home if wants to retain that Hillbilly title. I'm nippin' at his heels. Can ya hear me Ed? : )

Hell Ferris even has the pictures of Fireman Jim at Bonneville! I really dig the picture of Dino's bike. It's cool that he and I have another common thread in our lives.

I see that Jerry also posted a picture of the birdhouse Dad built. If you folks have followed this trip you know that Brinegar's cabin was and is a favorite place of mine and was also a favorite of Dad's. I've had the honor of taking many good friends there for their first time. Most people see what Martin Brinegar seen when they visit the place; beauty and solitude. Anyway a few years back at Christmas Mom and Dad make their normal trek north to Indiana for the holidays. Dad's bursting at the seams with pride explaining that he had a gift that I was to open last. Christmas day came and at the end of the exchange he brings in this box and the entire family gathers to see me open. I open it up to find this perfect, to scale, replica of Brinegar's cabin. I almost couldn't hold back the tears but I managed. He was amped, said that it's an "outdoor" birdhouse. He even made the roof hinged so it could be cleaned out every year. He told me to drill the entry hole for the birds anywhere I wanted as he couldn't make up his mind for the best location. Needless to say it's never been outside and no holes were drilled in it. Everytime I look at it I see the love he built into it and realize he enjoyed our trips every bit as much as I did. This trip continues to come full circle. Healing souls, mending disasters and forging friendships.

Thanks Bro.

well, i yanked myself away from this saga afore i had a chance to put a proper period on day 15, a day that included a wild bull ride thru a hurricane tropical depression and my introduction to the quiet, orderly beauty of Indiana. it was grand to finally see JB2's crib and meet the lovely Mrs. JB2, aka Kim. : )

oh, and i met the birds!

anyway, today marked very nearly the end of the trail for my adopted brother JB2, as his whirlwind journey around the country had finally returned him to his roost.

me? well, i had another week and a half to go, and was a little misty-eyed at the thought of leaving my riding partner in the mirrors. first things first, tho - we still had a day of adventure ahead as JB2 would show me around his hood tomorrow.

cool! : )
